Kayaking Fox Creek from Loreto Court launch

Launch at Loreto Court onto Shakett Creek and go up to Fox Creek.

This is a nice launch -our paddle will be approx 6 miles in probably 4 hours.

NO facilities at launch but nice boat ramp.

Directions: From Hwy. 41 in Nokomis turn east at Captain Eddy’s Seafood Restaurant onto Colonia Lane. Follow Colonia Lane across railroad tracks and past a cemetery, then look for the small Suncoast Industrial Park on the left. Just beyond the industrial park, turn left on to River Blvd. South and go northward to Loreto Court. Turn left on Loreto Court and follow it until it dead ends. The ramp is on the right.

Shakett creek can be  windy when heading up to Fox Creek so this is not a beginner paddle as it can be a bit strenuous.

Bring a picnic lunch.

What a wonderful leisurely paddle and a beautiful day on the water. Thanks, Anne for organizing this for all of us and thanks Terry for the eagle's nest heads up. HUGE!

I had trouble launching & unloading at the ramp which was quite steep & slippery. Ended up in the water!

Thoroughly enjoyed the day.... paddling a new area, being with the Explorers and socializing with the girls afterward.

The 0.6 miles at the north end of the creek is absolutely one of the most beautiful creeks in the region.

No better way to spend a Sunday. Touched base with some old friends and met a few new ones. A fun paddle, new to me. Thank you Anne for all your efforts.

I took this trip today {FRI) by myself it was great. When I entered Fox Creek there is a "dead end" section to the right I went in there and at the very end I saw what I think was 5 or 6 wild hogs. They were on land near the waters edge. enjoy! Jimmy

I bought a new car on Tuesday but have no way to carry a kayak on it until the roof rack comes in, so I will miss the fun. This is one of the very best and most scenic creeks in our entire region. If anyone has transportation for me from Bradenton please call me at 752-1426. In any case I wish you all a most enjoyable paddle.

Jay, if I get in (am on wait list) I have room on my roof rack for your kayak....am in Bradenton (near IMG) and have a Hyundai Elantra...as I said, I'm on the "wait list"... Diane

(Be sure to see the eagle's nest in the pine tree across the street...just southeast of the launch)
