The Herring River is a scenic waterway, surrounded by over 200 acres of Harwich Conservation Lands. We always see birds along the peaceful banks and expansive marsh.
We'll head to the end of the river. If there is enough water to get us to the very end of the river, maybe we can briefly stretch our legs near the herring ladder that connects the river with the West Reservoir. This scenic area offers a panoramic view of the reservoir where a Bald Eagle has been seen in early May. There is a tiny area to get out on when the water level is just right.
All paddles are for experienced and energetic paddlers. This is not a place to "get experience on the water"...you need that experience before paddling with this group.
DIRECTIONS: COMING FROM EAST OF HARWICH: Take exit 10 from US 6 and turn onto Rt 124 south. Drive to the intersection of 124 and 39. Take 39 south for 1.3 miles to Rt 28, turn right onto 28 north, go 0.9 mile and turn LEFT down a slope into a dirt parking lot just before the Herring River Bridge. Do not cross the bridge. Do not pass Cape Cod's irish Pub.
COMING FROM WEST OF HARWICH: Take exit 9A and go south on Rt 134 and drive about 2 miles to Rt 28. Turn left at the lights onto Rt 28 / Main Street and go east about 2 miles, though the "downtown area" of Dennisport ...see Bishop's Terrace restaurant on the left and Riverside Drive on the right...then you can't miss Cape Cod's Irish Pub on the left. Cross the bridge and take a right turn, down a slope into a dirt parking lot.
Plan to arrive well before 10:00 AM, as we will be in the water and paddling at 10:00. The time posted for every paddle is the time we begin paddling away from the launch and we always launch on time.
MAKE SURE I CAN CONTACT YOU IN CASE WEATHER FORCES A CANCELLATION.
LUNCH AT CLANCY'S AFTER THE PADDLE ???
