CANCELLED. NO ONE SIGNED UP TO PADDLE, SO WE WILL MEET AT 9:00 TO WALK. THE ONLY OTHER PERSON WHO RSVP'd had to cancel due to family emergency. Will reschedule this.
Find us on Bell's Neck Road, in the beautiful Bell's Neck Conservation Lands, where you can see water on one side of the road and near a small parking area with a wooden sign posting structure, on the other side of the road.
Leaving dogs in the car in dead shade for about 45 minutes, we'll do a mini-paddle on the reservoir...lots of submerged debris in the water, so plastic boats are ideal.
Then, with dogs, we'll walk the dirt roads that run between the fresh water of the West Reservoir, the brackish water of the East Reservoir. We'll cross 2 bridges that offer expansive views of salt marshes and see both reservoirs from the road and the trails. The walk should also last no more than 1 hour.
Bell's Neck is a popular birding area and we can probably find black crowned night herons and other birds. This might be a place were you want to have your binoculars with you. This wonderful 259 acre area is part of the Harwich Conservation Trust.
It's a great dog walking area. Ticks should be plentiful in May at Bell's Neck, in the weeds along the dirt roads.
Guests are welcome on walks. No need to ever bring a dog to join us on dog-friendly walks.
DIRECTIONS: Bell's Neck Road runs between Great Western on it's north end and Depot on the south end.
From 28 in West Harwich, go N on Depot. Immediately bear RIGHT on Bell's Neck Road and go ~ 1 mile.
From 134 in Dennis, just south of Rt 6 and the Stop & Shop plaza, go west / left at the light on Upper County and take an immediate left on Great Western...go almost 2 miles. Turn south / right on Bell's Neck Rd. Go only 1/3 mile and see the big wooden sign/display on your left. Park in the lot behind the sign or on the road just beyond that.
