THIS IS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. NOT ONLY IS THE TIDE PERFECT FOR THIS PADDLE, IT IS PROBABLY THE ONLY ONE WE COULD DO ON THIS WEEKEND. Chase Garden Creek (Grey's Beach / Bass Hole) has a huge, paved parking lot that NEVER requires parking stickers, so I will post it every month. There are restrooms, a beach and a long boardwalk going out over the marsh.
Chase Garden Creek winds it's way into a beautiful marsh in Yarmouth Port. This paddle combines a beautiful paddle with the best parking on Cape Cod for our group. Parking stickers are the thing that makes scheduling paddles for a group on Cape Cod extremely difficult.
High tide in Barnstable Harbor is 9:26 AM, so we will have plenty of water out and back if the winter storms haven't changed the sand distribution under water in a way that interferes with our paddle. We won't know until we try it.
The launch area is flanked on the left by a long boardwalk, where people go to see the sunset and the gorgeous views of Cape Cod Bay and a beach area on the right. There is an active osprey nest next to the boardwalk and five more osprey nests in the marsh.
DIRECTIONS: From Rt.6, the Mid-Cape Highway, take exit 8 and go NORTH on Union St. to Rt 6A. Cross 6A, by going a tiny bit left to the left of a gas station to get on Old Church St. (If you miss that and are on 6A heading west, take the next right on Playground and head north...it will join Old Church St.) About 0.3 mile up Old Church from 6A, bear right at the stop sign onto Center St. Go 0.5 mile on Center and at the T, take a left to stay on Center and drive until you see the parking lot. Go BEYOND the parking lot and see the ramp just before the boardwalk. Unload your gear and park your car in the lot.
Please leave enough time to travel and unload, so that you are in the water at 10:00.
All paddles are for experienced and energetic paddlers. This is not a place to "get experience on the water"...you need that experience before paddling with this group. No guests on paddles.
