Wed, May 14-Walk Bell's Neck, Harwich (dog friendly)

THIS IS A WALK AT A SNAPPY PACE AND DOGS CAN BE OFF LEASH WHERE IT IS SAFE FOR THEM TO BE LOOSE.

Find us on Bell's Neck Rd. at 9:00 AM where water comes right up next to the west side of the road... near a small parking area and the wooden structure shown in the photo. That is about 1/3 mile south of Great Western Rd, below the bike path. You can park anywhere along the road.

We'll walk south on Bell's Neck Rd, where there will be some passing cars, then take left up a dirt road (no cars here usually) that heads down to a bridge that crosses the Herring River..there are expansive views of a salt marsh. We'll  do another dirt road and get to another bridge. The walk is pretty much in dead shade and should also last no more than 1 hour.

Bell's Neck is a popular birding area and we can probably find black crowned night herons and other birds.  This wonderful 259 acre area is part of the Harwich Conservation Trust.

It's a great dog walking area. Even though there are a few vehicles going through, we'll stay on the dirt roads to avoid ticks.  If you have a water-dog like one of mine, he/she can take a swim before starting the walk, in the water near the parking area.

DIRECTIONS: Bell's Neck Road runs between Great Western on it's north end and Depot on the south end.

From 28 in West Harwich, go N on Depot. Immediately bear RIGHT on Bell's Neck Road and go ~ 1 mile.

From 134 in Dennis, just south of Rt 6 and the Stop & Shop plaza, go west / left at the light on Upper County and take an immediate left on Great Western...go almost 2 miles. Turn south / right on Bell's Neck Rd. Go only 1/3 mile and see the big wooden sign/display on your left. Park in the lot behind the sign or on the road just beyond that.

Guests are welcome on walks. No need to ever bring a dog on dog-friendly walks.
