Tues, June 24 - Paddle Chase Garden Creek, YarmouthPort

Chase Garden Creek winds it's way through a beautiful marsh in Yarmouth Port. This trip combines a great paddle from an easy launch and a huge, paved parking lot that NEVER requires parking stickers, so I will post it every month. There are restrooms, a beach (Grey's Beach / Bass Hole) and a long boardwalk going out over the marsh.

High tide in Barnstable Harbor is 10:05 AM, so we will have plenty of water out and back.

The launch area is flanked on the left by a long boardwalk, where people go to see the sunset and the gorgeous views of Cape Cod Bay and a beach area on the right. There is an active osprey nest next to the boardwalk and five more osprey nests in the marsh.

DIRECTIONS:  From Rt.6, the Mid-Cape Highway, take exit 8 and go NORTH on Union St. to Rt 6A.  Cross 6A, by going a tiny bit left to the left of a gas station to get on Old Church St.  (If you miss that and are on 6A heading west, take the next right on Playground and head north...it will join Old Church St.)  About 0.3 mile up Old Church from 6A, bear right at the stop sign onto Center St. Go 0.5 mile on Center and at the T, take a left to stay on Center and drive until you see the parking lot.  Go BEYOND the parking lot and see the ramp just before the boardwalk.  Unload your gear and park your car in the lot.

Please leave enough time to travel and unload, so that you are in the water at 10:00.

All paddles are for experienced and energetic paddlers. This is not a place to "get experience on the water"...you need that experience before paddling with this group. No guests on paddles.

    8:30 am

We should be o.k. between 10am and 1pm.
The NWS hourly forecasts winds around 10 mph until about 2pm.

After 2pm, it jumps up to 13 mph with gusts to 23 mph.
We should be eating lunch by then.

    I'm on my way.

6:50 AM...the NWS is back to high gusts, but the other sites are staying with yesterday's wind predictions. Fingers crossed.

As of 6:30 PM on Monday, the NWS forecast for tomorrow is sunny, 75 and winds only at 7-13 mph.

The Weather Channel, weather.com, says for Yarmouth Port between 10:00 AM and noon, the wind will go from 10 mph to 13 mph.

Accuweather.com says for 10:00 AM to noon, that the wind will be only 7 to 9 mph (we have a winner !!)

windfinder.com predicts 10 to 12 mph winds....and they are usually the highest wind prediction.

So, it looks good : ) We'll feel a breeze, but it will not get nasty. The bad thing is that the wind will be out of the SSE and when we are returning at the very end, we will be paddling SSW.....so into the wind, if there is wind to paddle into.

There is not a place to take a break at the mid-point....or at any point. There are 5 wonderful Osprey nests in the marsh....the chicks should be just fledging.

As of 8:30 AM on Monday, the forecast for wind tomorrow is iffy. It's worse for Wednesday or I would ask you if you were free on Wed, in case we are forced to cancel tomorrow. (and it's worse yet on Thurs). So, we'll keep an eye on it today and will decide this evening what to do.
