Thursday, June 19 - Walk Bell's Neck, Harwich (dog friendly)

Find us on Bell's Neck Rd. at 9:00 AM where water comes right up next to the west side of the road... near a small parking area and the wooden structure shown in the photo. That is about 1/3 mile south of Great Western Rd, below the bike path. You can park anywhere along the road.

We'll walk south on Bell's Neck Rd, where there will be a few passing cars, then take left up a dirt road (no cars here usually) that heads down to a bridge that crosses the Herring River..there are expansive views of a salt marsh. We'll  do another dirt road and get to another bridge. The walk is pretty much in dead shade and should also last no more than 1 hour.

Bell's Neck is a popular birding area and we can probably find black crowned night herons and other birds.  This wonderful 259 acre area is part of the Harwich Conservation Trust.

It's a great dog walking area. DOGS CAN BE OFF LEASH WHERE IT IS SAFE FOR THEM TO BE LOOSE. We'll stay on the dirt roads to avoid ticks.  Plan on insect repellent for you and your dog, although the biting "horse flies" usually aren't a problem until later. If it's hot, you can cool your dog down, before starting the walk, in the water near the parking area.

Bell's Neck Rd. runs between Great Western Rd on the north and Depot Rd and Rt 28, at the south end.

Guests are welcome on walks. No need to ever bring a dog on dog-friendly walks.

Bells Neck is between Ex 9 and 10. Driving from Hyannis, you take 9. Driving from Chatham/Orleans, you take 10. You should find a Google map up towards the top of this page...above the photo of my dogs. If only one or two people RSVP for a walk, I always ask them to call me in the morning of the walk to verify that they are on their way...then I leave my house. I'll email you my phone # if only you sign up and I'll ask you for your #.
