Up through August, 2012, parking has gotten tougher and tougher for this location; if the situation progresses, there will be NO PARKING signs starting at the launch and going all the way to Hyannis. So, we will try to get two Mashpee River paddles in prior to Memorial Day when we will be able to legally park right at the launch.
We paddle through the Mashpee Woodlands Conservation Area, perhaps seeing nesting marsh wrens and red winged blackbirds along the shoreline and always osprey overhead. It is a beautiful paddle, end to end.
High tide in Popponesset Bay is 9:23 AM on May 4, 2013, so we'll have enough water to make it all the way up the river and over the really shallow parts up toward Rt 28.
DIRECTIONS: Meet at town landing on Mashpee Neck Rd. From US 6, take exit 5. Drive on MA 149 south, and then turn right onto MA 28 north. Go 3.5 miles and turn left onto Orchard Road. Drive another 0.5 mile and turn right onto Quinaquisset Ave. A quick left will take you onto Mashpee Neck Rd; it’s 1.5 miles to the town landing parking area...at the very end of the road. Do not be tempted to take a right prior to the end of the road.
Parking stickers are newly required, not just at the landing and on the street near the landing, but well up the street. Vehicles without stickers can unload kayaks at the ramp and then park at the ramp up until Mamorial Day, unless they change the rules by then.
Be in the water by 10:00 AM. The group never waits past the launch time for any paddle.
Cancellation forced by weather will be posted the night before and I will email all who have RSVPd and I will postpone the paddle to Sunday, May 5, when there is still a good tide for this location.
All paddles are for experienced and energetic paddlers. This is not a place to "get experience on the water"...you need that experience before paddling with this group. No exceptions.
It's a gorgeous, gorgeous paddle.
