Join us for an overnight kayak camping experience at Merchants Mill Pond NC. This website will tell you all about the Mill Pond (http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/memi/main.php). It truly is an enchanted place to paddle. Please review park rules and regulations before attending this event

As always remember to dress for the water temp not the air temp and bring a change of clothes just in case they are needed. This paddle is open to all boats. PFD’s must be worn at all times when on the water. If you don’t have a boat you can call the Mill Pond [masked] and make arrangements to rent a canoe for the weekend. The cost is $20.00 for a 24 hour period.

Paddle in site number 3 has been reserved for this event.
We will meet Saturday morning at the launch site at 11:00 am (look for a red Trail Blazer) however you must stop at the Visitors Center to check in and obtain a parking pass.

Travel time from the Peninsula and Southside is estimated to be less than an hour and a half. After registration we will proceed to the park boat ramp for final preparations before launching. All vehicles left in the park after posted park hours must be registered at the visitors center.

Merchants Millpond is one of North Carolina’s rarest ecological communities featuring lofty bald cypress trees, luxuriant growths of Spanish moss, and abundant wildlife, including the elusive alligators which inhabit the area.

Kayak/Canoe campers are responsible for transporting their own supplies and equipment to the reserved campsite. This includes food, water, clothing, tent, etc. Water is available at the launch area but must be transported to the campsite. Paddlers should have all safety related equipment on their boat. A fire pit with cooking grate is available at the campsite. A nearby pit toilet is also available for use.

This paddle is restricted to adults only and please NO pets on this trip.

Members from Hampton Roads Outdoor Adventures will also be invited to this paddle.

I'm new to the area, do we need boat licenses for kayaks in Virginia? We do in Ohio.

Can I bring my kayak or do I have to rent a canoe?

Just comfy clothes and layer. There are 3 canoes reserved under my name at the ranger station. Pay $20 and one is yours for the nite to get your gear there. It is a very easy place to camp and hike around. I look forward to fabulous weather and a good time !

I've only ever kayaked in the summer, what should I wear on this trip? I'm good for the camping part, just not the paddling part. Thanks!

Do we have to make a reservation for camping or is that already taken care of when you reserved site number 3? It is tent camping, correct?
    Thanks!
