I'm going to get there right at 10 I don't need anybody waiting for me I'm comfortable getting it in the water one I'll catch up. It took me an hour to figure out the ratchet straps getting it on top of the SUV was the easy part it turned out

I am absolutly novice at Kayaking and have been wanting to learn. Would it be possible to come and meet everyone and get some pointers?

Heather, you can call Pagan River Outfitters and see what they have to rent. I am not sure if they have only "sit-on-tops" or if they have sit-ins also. I believe their number is (757)[masked]

Kasie, in case you did not see my last post about what to wear and using my boat the answer to the boat is yes. Dress comfortably but try to avoid cotton material.

EVERYBODY....The road to the launch site is not marked. Depending on which way you enter Windsor Castle Park you will be turning away from the dog/walking area parking lot. If you need assistance my cell[masked]-1137. If you are going to be late please let me know.

Kasie, I think my computer is playing games with me. Did you see the post about how to dress and using my kayak?

Jim, Peggy needs to be back by 2. I would be able to float back with her, if I could use your kayak. Would I be able to do that? And just put your kayak in your truck, etc...? Like · 51m ago

Katie. Ill be glad to help you if you'll give me a hand as well getting my yak back on top of my SUV! I'm crossing my fingers to get it done this am to get there!

I mean Kasie!! I just sent you a private message with my cell phone

Hey gang, what do you think about leaving the launch and turning left? We can go under the bridge turning left past Suffolk Station and paddle around past the meat plant and up the Pagan River for 3 or 4 miles depending on time. We could then reverse our course back to the launch area where those who want a shorter paddle could exit the river. Anyone wanting a longer paddle could continue 3 or 4 miles up up Cypress Creek.

Yes, it was me. Sorry I havent responded sooner. Thank you Jim for offering me your kayak...I work tomorrow at 330, I have a feeling yall wont be back until after 3. If for some reason yall will be back by 3, then I would love to borrow your kayak. Otherwise, I will have to catch ya'll next time!

    April 26, 2013

    • Peggy

I don't want to be out past 2 - or even 1:30... so if there was a contingent who wanted to make it a shorter dahy- at least we could all paddle back together??

Peggy, sounds perfect as long as Jim's kayak is still up for grabs/he is okay with me coming back early with it.

      April 26, 2013

  • Jim C.

Kasie you are probably right that the paddle will not be over in time for you to make it to work on time.

I also want to remind everyone the PFD’s are mandatory.

Question to toss out there - I won't be able to paddle for extended period - perhaps til 1:30 or so.. if anyone else is on about that same schedule who I could paddle back with - would that be an option - ??

    April 26, 2013

  • Jim C.

Sarah,of course you are correct it was Kasie. Sorry for the confusion. I am bringing the extra kayak just in case someone wants to try a different/longer boat. I am really looking forward to this as it will probably be my last paddle with the meetup group since we are moving to Tenn next month. Thanks for suggesting this paddle.

Since Sarah has not responded I am making my Tempest 170 (17 ft.) touring/sea kayak available to anyone who does not have a boat but would like to attend this meetup. 1st come 1st served with the caveat that if Sarah responds today by 5 PM she has priority. Contact me here or[masked] call or text.

I have a kayak to use. I think it was Kasie who didn't have one. As for a route, I have only been there once so I'm not completely familiar with it. I'm open to whatever everyone else wants to do. I just want to get out there and paddle!!!

      April 26, 2013

This will be my first Meetup with you all and first time in my new (used) kayak. Wish me luck getting it in top of my SUV by myself!

According to the USGS web site the water temperature is around 60 to 63 degrees. Sounds warm but total immersion would still be a shock to the system. Please dress accordingly. The air temp should be around 70 with a 25% chance of evening rain. Dont forget to bring drinking water and any snacks you may need.

Forgot to add that I can post this on the Hampton Road Outdoor Adventure meetup site also if you would like for me to do so. Just let me know as soon as you can.

that would be great! I have only gone right (away from the James River), but I'm open to either!

      April 25, 2013

    • Jim C.

If you go left from the launch and under the bridge you can turn left and go about 4 miles upstream for a easy paddle or after going under the bridge continue straight and paddle about 5 miles out to the James River. High tide should be around 12 to 12:30 so going out to the James would have us going against the tide. Either way is ok with me.

Hi Sarah, WC park is a great site. I went on and announced the meetup, perhaps we can get more people to sign up. Any idea which way you intend to paddle. Going out to the James river is always fun if everyone is up to the distance. It dosen't matter to me, I just want to paddle :)
