This is an event posted on another Meetup, Hampton Roads Outdoor Adventures. This will be my second trip of the year to this stretch, but this time I will be starting at Sandstone Falls instead of Hinton. We will drive down Friday afternoon, in 2 vehicles, and arrive at the campsite, about 4.5 hrs drive time. The next morning we will wake very early and drive one vehicle to the launch by Sandstone Falls, and begin the paddle. We will paddle about 30 miles total on Saturday, reaching the other car at the campsite by the end of the day. Sounds like a lot, but the current is fast and you move quick down the river. We will encounter several Class III's and Class II's, intermediate whitewater, nothing too serious. Whitewater kayak not necessary, I used a 10.5 ft recreational and did just fine, but a skirt is required. Looking for 2 more people to join 4 of us who are already signed up so gas is less money. If 2 more people join from here, for a total of 6, expect to pay about $50-$60 roundtrip. We will return Saturday night after we conclude the paddle, arriving late. See this link for a more detailed event description, and a GoPro video of my last trip in May showing the highlights.
