They have not posted date for next regatta yet, but should be either March 14th or 21st. If you need a race sooner, the Clear Creek Paddle Race is November 15th, 4.7 miles, ten bucks. Contact [masked] for more info.

Great paddle; lots of help at the end.

May I brag? I did it 50 minutes faster than last year and still enjoyed the view. I really appreciate the helpers at the end.

Seemed like a fun event. I met a lot of interesting people and looking forward becoming more involved. New to Meetup and found out about at the last moment.

Had The start is something else, but had a great time. Didn't rain on me until the very end. Thanks to all that help with the take out. Was nice to have someone schlep the kayak up and out of the way. Looking forward to next year.

    • Ken J.

The start is always crazy but fun!

      March 16, 2014

  • Mr O.

Despite the Rain it was still a lot of fun. Especially the free burritos and prizes you could win at the Subaru Tent.

  • Ken J.

Great! I didn't paddle but I did help a few get out of their boats. Those of you I got to see again , nice to see you at the race and those I missed, I hope to see you at the next meet up!

I only made final decision that morning to go Jeeping at BVORR once the weather radar showed rain wasnt going to hit until lunch break out there on the clay trails. Had fun... will show u pics later... but REGATTA was my weather back up plan - to hang out at end and help boats up. Maybe next year i can try my SCRAMBLER in the event.

I was exhausted and cold but had a great experience!
My first Regatta but won't be my last.

    2 · March 15, 2014

    • Wendy N.

Last year was hot and dry... the year before was cold, T-storms, and high flooding and was canceled (i think first ever cancel, and sadly on their 40th anniversary).

      March 16, 2014

  • Lili C.

It was my firsf regatta. Just wished it wasn't cold and rainy. Will definitely become a yearly event for me.

    1 · March 15, 2014

    • Wendy N.

Last year it was hot and dry.... i think that's why so many were taking off their life vests (that or tan lines) and were getting disqualified! Hit or miss in Houston, huh?

Had a great time! Would be better in late april or may though.

The music was really entertaining. Liked hearing the song don't rock the boat baby. Lol. Very fun and made a new friend. :) wish it was in late april or may though.

Those of you that are bringing your own boat: Look for the KAYAKING IN HOUSTON canopy at the take out location and you can leave your boat near us and we will keep an eye on it while you get shuttled back to your vehicle, then when you come back to get your boat you will have help to get it to your vehicle.

    March 15, 2014

  • Brenda

Will see about coming out to volunteer. What time should I be there?

    March 14, 2014

    • Ken J.

You can show up at the put in at 6 and help there or you can show up at the take out after 7 and help there...Thanks in advance.

      March 15, 2014

  • Mr O.

    HELLO EVERYONE!!!

Race day is this Saturday. If you are not paddling but you still want to come out and have fun you should.

Also we love volunteers, so if you want to come to the finish line park (address above), we will have plenty of stuff for volunteers to do. From helping people get out of the water, to carrying boats, and much more. Just come to the table, canopy, or whatever we have that day and find Rico. We will also bring out the kayaking in Houston meetup flag so you can look for that as well.

True... forgot about that... will let the group know if i'll be out there... the Regatta was competing with a jeep run at Brasos Valley Off Road Ranch (BVORR), it's clay trails mostly, so i only go if it's dry. Lots of off-camber options and steep climbs. I went last year and had lots of fun with stock and 31's following everyone else in there 33's and big lifts. Staying with 31's but getting a small suspension lift and some quick release disconnects for front sway bar this week and I kinda want to play on the same trails to see how the changed flex feels.

      1 · March 2, 2014

    • Ken J.

You will love the change! Just remember to reconnect once you are back on the road. :)

After looking at last years results I noticed a lot of people were DQ due to NOT WEARING PFD. Here is a link to the rules. http://www.buffalobayou.org/documents/2014RegattaRulesRegulations.pdf

My friend and I will use a tandem kayak for the race. Is there a fee to transport us back to the starting line? (including the kayak of course) ;-)

    January 29, 2014

Registration for the Regatta is now open. Rentals from Bayou Shuttle for the regatta race are also now open.

Saturday weather says 59 degrees mostly cloudy. I like kayaking in the sun so I may not.

    January 21, 2014

  • liv_to_kayak

It would be fun but freezing cold.

    January 21, 2014

Are you guys talking about going this saturday? If so the guy at shuttle service said this saturdays launch is from briarbend park.

    January 21, 2014

  • Ken J.

Think we can put together a few practice runs before the race?

    1 · January 13, 2014

    • Ken J.

We are going to try to put together a WEEKEND of practice runs. Sat will be slow to check out the bayou and then Sunday at race speed. If the flow stays where it's at then you will see all the logs but the flow will be in the 500 cfs ,faster, race day.

      1 · January 18, 2014

    • Wendy N.

Cool, i'll be aiming for the slow Saturday. Hopes it falls on one of my open dates. But I still need more water time on the other dates... Cypress creek doesnt let you take out at same put it spot (must make reservations business day before with HP4 parks, regardless), so I cant go there with my friend. I'm hoping to see some group Lake or other Bayou meetups before race too.

      January 18, 2014

  • Ken J.

Will Bayou Shuttle Service be renting those really fast tandem boats again this year? One of those boats took 1st place in the mix doubles last YEAR!!

    2 · January 7, 2014

    • Mr O.

Yes. Rentals for the regatta will open very soon.

      1 · January 13, 2014

    • Lili C.

      How much is the rental?

      January 17, 2014

  • liv_to_kayak

Ok well say when! I want to learn all the cool stuff so I can try to kayak it for any reason not just for the regatta. Just didnt want to pay 60 bucks for a tour!

    January 13, 2014

    • Ken J.

If you have your own boat Liv_to_kayak it doesn't cost but $20.00 and you still get the full tour if you use Bayou Shuttle Tours, one of our sponsors.

      January 14, 2014

Guess I'll just go for it and do buffalo bayou this sunday all by myself. Hoping for a sunny day.

      January 5, 2014

    • Mr O.

Yes. There will be some volunteers needed. I'm waiting to hear exactly what they need. They might need some sweeper boats as well as general volunteers. I will post as soon as I am told.
