  • This is very last minute, but hopefully some of you can still participate and help out our paddle trails that we enjoy. The Bayou Preservation Association, one of our sponsors and the leading organization in Houston that is maintaining and or improving all of our paddle trails, is hosting a paddle trail clearing this Saturday, February 8th at 10am. We are meeting at 10am at Dairy Ashford Launch and will group up and organize from there. There will be two main mini groups.
We will have a team that picks up trash and We will have a team clearing log jams

We are going to work from HWY 6 back to Dairy Ashford. This is the same course as the 2014 Bayou Adventure Race.

"This is not a leisure paddle. "

If you can help please bring gloves and clothes you don't mind getting wet and dirty. (no sweatpants this time).

The BPA will provide some tools and trash bags, but if you have your own hedge clippers, hand saw, or anything else that you can use to help you clear a log jam form the water, then feel free to bring it. If you need a boat, please post in the comment section below that you are coming and you need a boat. We will provide large two person tandem sit on top kayaks so that people can match up and work as a team to help our wonderful paddle trails.

EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT PARTICIPATING IN THE ADVENTURE RACE. This is a great opportunity to help your fellow paddler and your city.

EVERYONE Must wear a life jacket while on the water.

Everyone will be required to sign a liability release for the BPA and Bayou City Adventures if you need to use a boat.

At this time it is unclear if the BPA will provide lunch or not, so please plan accordingly and bring yourself a lunch or snack as well as plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Thank you all for your willingness to help.
This project needs to get done so it will be back on our schedule. This was a last minute clearing to help prepare the paddle trail for the Bayou Adventure Race. Since the Bayou Adventure Race got cancelled, there is no longer an immediate rush to get this done. So we are going to wait until it is a little bit warmer and to allow more time to recruit more volunteers.

I'd like to come, I'll need a kayak.
How do I confirm that I'm expected?
I'll be bringing rope, a hatchet, maybe a small power saw, 2-mil wetsuit, good gloves, and some good attitude.

If you have waders that would help as some will need to get in the water for jam removal. Have layers as we will have at least 20 degree temperature change during the event.

I'd love to do this, but I already have commitments for Saturday. I really enjoyed doing this in the past and felt like I was doing a service, meeting new friends and getting out on the water all at the same time!
