We are a group of easy-going quilters who sew together once a month. The ages of our members span five decades. Some members have quilted for more than 25 years and others have finished their first quilt at one of our quilt-ins and we are very proud of them. So, whether you have made 200 quilts or none, you will feel at home with us.
Each Quilt-In weekend is two days--from Saturday morning at 9am through Sunday afternoon at 5pm--unless specifically indicated otherwise in an event's details. The cost to attend a quilt-in is $20 for the weekend.
The quilt-in retreats are not stay-over. Instead, attendees go home Saturday night and come back Sunday morning. We each bring our own food for meals, or order in, or dine out at one of the downtown Saint Paul restaurants. Senor Wong's--downstairs--is a favorite. Sometimes, a member will "host/ organize" a pot luck. We especially enjoy having omelet-in-a-bag brunches from time to time.
At some of our gatherings, a member will share (demo) a technique they have learned. There are always things of interest on the free table; generally, quilt/ sewing related. Any thing left on the table is donated to Good Will, a day care or some other worthwhile cause. We also do some charity service work. For example, more than 150 pillowcases have been given to the children at St. Joseph's and to the Naomi Center. A new undertaking is recycling our unusable sewing scraps into dog and cat beds for the animal shelter.
From time-to-time, a quilter organizes an outing; generally, quilt related but not always. We have gone on shop hops as far away as Duluth and the border of Iowa. One field trip was to a quilt exhibit and tour of the James J Hill House with dinner afterwards at the Tavern on Grand. About a dozen ladies attended this fun outing.
Please indicate your interest in our group by requesting to join OR click on the "Contact Us" envelope to the right. We ask potential members to attend a quilt-in or two to try us on for size before their membership is actually approved here on MeetUp. After attending, if you like the group, please let me know and I can approve your membership. Then, you will have access to the information here on MeetUp, which includes future quilt-in dates, any upcoming special events, recipes, links to interesting places on the internet etc.
In order for me to send you the dates of our upcoming quilt-ins so you can give us a try and so I can send you more general information about the quilt-ins, I will need your e-mail address. Please include that in your request to join, if possible. If not included, I will reply to your inquiry asking you to send it to me. Please know that it is not our intent to appear to be an exclusive-type group. We are friendly and welcoming of newcomers. However, we want to keep our site here on MeetUp private to those who have attended a quilt-in and have confirmed, for themselves, that we are the kind of quilting group they would like to join; rather than being a general-type MeetUp group that has hundreds of members most of whom no one has met personally. We hope you understand.
Thanks for your interest and I do hope you come and quilt with us sometime soon!
