Save your newspapers, paper bags, milk cartons, yogurt containers, plastic produce bags, plant pots/trays, yogurt cups, egg cartons etc. to try some inexpensive and low tech seed starting methods. We'll try to demystify the process, discuss starting vs. buying plants, what to start indoors and what can be direct seeded (including the use of cold frames, tunnels, makeshift greenhouses etc.). We'll have a calculator hand-out to help determine appropriate start dates.
Bring: seed starter mix and seeds if you have them (we'll have some seeds from the swap). Bring your expertise or beginner's interest. Do you have a favorite method, tips, starting mix recipe to share?
A small amount) of seeds can grow a lot of seedlings. Think about fostering a tray of plant babies for a later plant swap or sale.
Please bring a dish to share. We'll provide coffee and tea.
There will also be a box for non-perishable food donation for the Hts. Emergency Food Bank.
