  • Aug 2, 2014 · 8:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

This will be a one day ride and will cover approximately 315 miles. We'll meet in Mount Washington at 8:00am, and start out toward Lawrenceburg for a quick fuel stop and stretch. Then we'll head to Versailles to pick up  KY-169 (Tates Creek Road) to the ferry across the Kentucky river.

Once across the river, we'll make a leisurely hop over to South Winchester for an early lunch at 'Halls on the River'

After lunch, the route takes us  through Winchester to Stanton, KY, (Fuel Stop)  then south on KY-15 where we'll take KY-77 through the Nada Tunnel.  Then it's on KY-715 for more of Eastern Ky back and twisty roads.

We'll come out back on KY-15, pick up KY-11 down to KY-52, then head west through Ravanna, Berea, Danville, Springfield, Bardstown and end back in Mt. Washington.

Wish I had known Ed...I would have come got you and trailered your bike home. I actually already my trailer hooked to the truck with ramps on-board ready to go. My wife was on standby to bring it to us if someone had a mechanical issue while on our ride yesterday. Removing that fix-a-flat from your wheel is going to be a real mess.

Thanks Bill. It was a real pleasure meeting you and your son. You ran a great ride. Looking forward to more in the future.

I have a trailer and a truck. After I split off to go home I ran a quick errand then headed toward home. The temp dropped about three miles from the house, then about a mile from home it started pouring. It was cold!

"I have trailer..." and that makes you my new best friend.

I had one of those "feelings" Friday & went and bought a tire repair kit with the CO2 cartridges for Sat. ride & then couldn't make it. Sorry Ed looks like you got my flat!

I then realized I need a better plan for a flat on my bike. I don't own a trailer or even have a hitch on any of my cars. I don't know anybody that can really help me get my bike home either so I will need to think this contingency plan for a bike failure some more.

Sorry to hear you had such problems at the end there. Luckily it was at the end and you got to enjoy the ride. I'm glad you made it home safely.

I find the hole (no nail or anything but a hole just the same) and I had a plug kit so I tried to plug it but its difficult with it being totally flat. I had also my small hand pump so I tried to fill it and plug it ... anyway the first plug was a mess. A second couple in a car stopped and offered me a fix-a-flat can so we tried that with the bad plug and it got me 1 mile closer before going flat again. I yanked the first plug out with pliers and put a second plug that went in right and I pumped it up again with both the remains of the fix-a-flat can and my pump and this time I was able to limp home at 5 to 10 miles per hour because it took me almost an hour to get home. The tire never reached any kind of good pressure but at least I wasn't on the rim and it rode real sloppy and loose and could barely take a turn (what irony from the aggressive turning I was doing earlier that day). I barely made it, took a shower and looked at it again... totally flat again.

This was a great ride and it was great meeting new members (new to me anyway). All was going great and near the end I split off to go home when suddenly with 8 miles to go my bike begins to wobble real bad. Luckily I was able to pull over and I see I have a total flat on my rear. I was just going about 60 mph so now I know I could recover from a flat on my bike.

This was a great ride. We did run into some rain, but we were out of it after about 20 min of riding, then the sun came out and dried us out. It was nice meeting some of the members of our group. Looking forward to riding you guys again soon!

I'm still going. Don't think it's going to rain too much. Scattered showers......famous last words. Ha!

      Cool. See you in lLBurg

I have been fighting a stomach bug for the last few days. I had hoped to be past it for the ride, but sadly I'm not. Hence why I'm up at 1:00AM letting you know I won't be able to make the ride.

I'm there unless someone cancels. A little rain won't stop me.

    August 2, 2014

  • BobD

I'm with you, Kellog! I don't like riding in the rain. The Lou. weather just said 50% chance east of Frankfort tomorrow!

    August 1, 2014

    • Kellog

Still 20% here. Scattered showers. I don't mind that, if it's warm enough to dry out.

      August 1, 2014

    • James

Yeah, I'm not a fan of riding in the rain either.

Wouldn't mind going, but the family is having a picnic of sorts in Cherokee Park in the early afternoon.

If anyone wants to come by for a bit (including after the ride), we will be at the Teepee-shaped pavilion by the fountain from about 2 pm til sometime before sundown.

If it's raining on Saturday I won't be going. :(

I agree, Bill. Sounds like a good plan. hope to see everyone then.

    July 19, 2014

  • Bill B.

I've been watching the weather closely, and the eastern part of the state where we will be riding, there a 100% chance of rain in the forecast. Weather radar confirms this with a large patch of rain in western TN moving northeast. No on likes riding in the rain, so I have pushed this ride back to August 2nd. Sorry for the inconvenience and I hope that everyone can make this ride in two weeks.

I won't be able to go on the day ride Saturday. I have had a death in my family, and I have to go to NY for my brother's funeral.

Please ride safe and enjoy the great weather expected on Saturday.

How about meeting @ the Kroger gas station on the Mt Washington by-pass?

    May 19, 2014

    • Bill B.

We've been meeting at the 5 star just down from Kroger. That's been working pretty well. We can fuel, grab a sausage and biscuit and a cup of coffee for those who like breakfast before heading out.
