First gathering of musicians

  • February 9, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Let's get together and jam a little bit, figure out the direction this meetup will go and just get to know each other.

We have room for about 15 folks and will put out some snacks.  Please, bring your own beverages.  Our home is in a patio community, so streets are a little narrow.  Parking IS allowed on the street but only on one side & only with the flow of traffic.  You can also park along several cut-outs at the end of the streets.  The bad news is that some of our neighbors are sticklers about parking.  The good news is that they don't seem to mind music at all :)

Call if you need better directions or have other questions. [masked]-5747.

Lastly, if you have a change of plans after you RSVP, we completely understand but appreciate a heads up.  Really enjoying the idea of having more people to play & sing with.

See ya!

Hey all, I'm a novice at best guitar player and I hope you guys will allow me to join in on the fun. Recent study indicates music is the only thing that stimulates the whole brain. I sure need that. Haven't worked in 13 years so I have too much time to just do my art (glorified doodling). Self portrait shown.

Novices are highly welcome, Doug. You'll be in good company with a lot of us. But there are some great musicians in our group. Another new member is trying to set up a meetup date with his church. His name is Matthew. Watch for a post soon. Glad to have you.

    February 19, 2013

  • Karen E.

Eddie and I would love to come again; however, we won't be free on a Saturday evening until March 2. But don't let that stop the rest of you! Keep the tunes rolling... :-)

    February 12, 2013

  • Micky N.

Absolutely. We enjoyed having everyone. Is 6 pm on Saturday still good for everyone? If so, we could maybe get the house clean by Feb 23 or March 2nd. Let us know & I'll check with Jan...the Boss;)
I like this crew way too much to do this just once a month!

    February 12, 2013

  • Phil B.

Not yet. I need to check with Jan and Mickey and see if they are willing to open up their home again to us like they did Saturday. Maybe sometime next month? Stay tuned!

Sorry that I couldn't make it, a delivery scheduled for 4 PM didn't arrive until 7 PM. I look forward to the next gathering.

Lots of fun - such a nice group of people! Quite a lot of musical tastes in common :-) Good mix of instruments, too - guitars, mandolin, banjo, harmonicas, bongos... We made a joyful noise!

This sounds like a real hootenanny! I've got James Taylor in my CD Player and my guitar is tuned up.

    January 27, 2013

  • Jan N.

Gram Parsons, Fleetwood Mac, Jim Morrisson,...the list goes on...I enjoy mostly country, bluegrass, and Americana these days. At the top of my chart is Lucinda Williams, with her amazing blend of southern blues/Americana she creates music with her love of poetry and stories. Jimmy Dale Gilmore is in my CD player, but Lu is always close by. In my younger days you could find me roaming the So. California coast following Fleetwood Mac and hanging out at Whiskey-A-Go-Go in LA!!! I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

Jimi Hendrix was such a huge influence on me when I was a kid. Just SO LOUD and SO MUCH SOUND and the production and the coolness... "Bold As Love" is still one of my favorite tunes of all time.
I've been listening to a lot of Mumford and Sons, Old Crow Medicine Show, Urban Dance Squad, Disco Biscuits and Steve Vai. My tastes are very eclectic and I love Pantha Du Prince, Nightmares on Wax, and all kinds of electronic music. Also, Megadeth, Anthrax, Metallica, SlipKnot... I just like music. Pixies, Billy Joel...

I've got something booked that weekend already, but if something changes, I'll certainly let everyone know!

Back when I was playing around town I was mostly influenced by the singer/songwriters : JT, Fogelberg, Cat Stevens. John Gorka is currently in my CD player. The Civil Wars are on my phone.

    January 24, 2013

  • Phil B.

I used to just be all about hard rock songs until I started playing guitar. Now I'll listen to just about anything and really have opened my mind to many different genres of music. A CD I've been listening to a lot lately is "Blunderbuss" by Jack White.

Here's a random "Get to Know You" question: name one of your biggest influences and tell us who is in your car CD player (or ipod) right now. Ready.... GO!

    January 24, 2013

  • Micky N.

Yee haw. Thanks Phil. I'll have details posted by tomorrow.

    January 24, 2013

  • Phil B.

Hey Micky, I added you as an Organizer. When you add a location, you can check the box "Only group members can see where this Meetup is happening.". That protects your address a little better I guess.

    January 24, 2013

  • Micky N.

Glad to host this first session. We have space, instruments, music stands, piano & a fireplace. What more do ya need, really? My only concern is putting our home address on the internet in an open Meetup group, where anyone outside the group could see it. The other group I host for is a closed group so members are known to the organizer, and only members can see posts & events.
Any suggestions? Would those who want to attend consider sending me your email addresses? Or Phil, would you add me as an event host, so that I can enter directions, view RSVP's and plan accordingly? I'm looking forward to meeting everyonw.

    January 24, 2013

  • Phil B.

I hate to put this on someone else to host but I just don't have adequate space right now for 10-15 people. I was searching for a group last week like this on meetup and couldn't find anything. I thought, "what the heck, I'll start a group and see if I get a few people to join over the next few months". I didn't expect this much response. It's awesome!

Got seats for about 12, so maybe a few folding chairs might be a good idea.

      Works for me!

      January 21, 2013

  • Marc H.

Works for me, I live in the Middletown area. Looking forward to the opportunity to jam. Do you need anything besides drinks?

    January 21, 2013

  • Micky N.

Think we could be persuaded to host our 1st get together if the Taylorsville Rd/Gene Snyder area is agreeable to everybody. We can provide some snack stuff if people will bring their own beverages. We have space so long as we don't go over 15 or so. If that works, let us know. We'll provide address, parking info etc. BTW, anyone going to see Lucinda Williams on Thursday?

    January 21, 2013

  • Phil B.

Hey Rob. No location yet. I'm going to check with Micky and see if she has enough space to accomodate 10-15 people.

    January 21, 2013

Do we have a location yet?

I'm looking forward to meeting everybody and sharing some tunes. You can find some samples of original tunes at MySpace.com/RobGable. Seeya Saturday the 9th!!

Jan & I are in JTown just off Taylorsville Rd. We've got a large open space living, and have been hosting our own tune pals weekly. I'm a living room picker; not itchin' to get on stage, just love to play and sing. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Getting together to get acquainted will be a great start. My work schedule is hectic as well. Saturday late afternoons work best for me but I'll try hard to make whatever time works best for everyone. Happy to see my friends D.C. and Rose on here!

    January 20, 2013

  • Jan N.

Of course I'll be there...it's my home!

    January 19, 2013

  • Micky N.

Play a little rhythm guitar & BAD banjo, but love to play & sing. There are about 5 of us who play every Thursday. Mostly bluegrass/mountain music stuff. Outlaw radio has got me diggin that Austin/Americana sound.

    January 19, 2013

  • Marc H.

I am happy to see this group coming together, with my work schedule I have to create opportunities to play music and would love the chance to jam. I live in the east end

    January 19, 2013

  • Phil B.

I'm in Louisville, in the east end. Looks like most of us are in the same age range but different skill levels. I'm 48 and have only been playing for a short time. That is cool.
