Kayak Dayz member Rod Price is Scheduled to Speak at Bill Jackson’s Shop for Adventure.
Adventure canoeist and author, Rod Price will be appearing at Bill Jackson’s on Feb. 6th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. He will be showing his power point presentation “From the Amazon to the Yukon” and signing books afterwards.
Price, 54, from Orlando has won more than 200 races in over 30 years of competition. In 2009, he gained international acclaim after winning the inaugural Yukon 1000 – the world’s longest canoe race. Price has competed in the Great Amazon River Raft Race, the Adirondack Canoe Classic, the Yukon River Quest, and the Missouri River 340. He is a three-time finisher of the WaterTribe Everglades Challenge and currently holds the record for the fastest finish in the class I tandem division – three days, six hours.
In 2012, Price completed the WaterTribe Ultimate Florida Challenge – a 1,200 mile circumnavigation of the state that included a section on the St. Marys and Suwannee Rivers plus a 40-mile portage. He is now the only paddler to have completed North America’s five longest races. This year he will be competing again in the Everglades Challenge and the 260-mile Texas Water Safari in June.
Price published his first book, “Racing to the Yukon” in 2009 which chronicles his progression from 10-mile canoe races to ultra-distance events. Last year he wrote “Racing Around Florida” about the Ultimate Florida Challenge. Price donates a portion of his book sales to the “Friends of the Wekiva River” a Central Florida charity that works to protect the Wekiva River Basin northwest of Orlando.
