We are a PA hiking group.
I had erased all of the "rules" and descriptive info because hiking is hiking and I didn't want to make it complicated. BUT, since I've moved out to the Midstate area and have a bunch of new members who don't know me......
I am not a guide – think of me more as an organizer or logistics person. I’m not an expert. I will not be leading the hike on the trail. I have likely never hiked the trail before. We may get lost. I like to try new trails. I do some research, find maps, make a plan. But it all exploratory, and I can’t guarantee that the information I have is 100% accurate. If you need the reassurance of hiking with someone who has already scouted the trail, this is not the hiking group for you.
No guests.
No children under 18.
I love dogs, so dogs are always welcome, you don't have to ask permission. Just read the description to make sure it is within your dog's ability. You know your dog better than I do. Also, post if you are bringing your dog so other people know and can make informed decisions about whether they want to come or not (because not everyone likes dogs.)
I hike at a moderate to slow pace (2 mph average.) I don't hike any faster if you seem annoyed by that. I don’t mind hiking with fast hikers, but you have to wait for the rest of us at the pre-appointed rendezvous site and you have to not be annoyed by that. If you don’t want to wait for me, don’t come hiking with me. There are loads of groups out there that hike fast, so there are plenty of options.
Be punctual.
Bring me chocolate.
The goal is for everyone to have a good time. Some folks like to hike with a very structured group or a stronger on-trail leader. If that’s the case, that is the group with whom you should hike. If you like exploring, potentially getting lost, and going at a somewhat slower pace, you should hang out with me in the woods.
