WebGL Game Hackathon

  • November 8, 2013 · 9:00 AM

Are you a web developer? Unity game developer? 3d artist? Gaming enthusiast? Want to learn how to make your own 3d web-based games, quickly and easily? Ok, then. We'll see you on Friday November 8th :)

The Toronto Khronos Chapter is pleased to support Verold in their third WebGL game hackathon. Verold provides visual tools and a component-model based scripting editor on top of three.js. If you're a Javascript developer, you can create components to hook up 3d scenes to any web API. If you're an artist, you can grab components from the asset store and quickly build an interactive application. And if you don't have all the skills you need to complete a project, you can easily collaborate with others in real-time.

You'll be amazed at what can be built in a few hours. At Verold's first Hackathon, Mike Bond made the gravity simulation "Falling in Circles", that went on to earn him first place in Mozilla's Dev Derby! Then at the second Hackathon, Jim Munroe, artist-in-residence at the AGO, built "The Magi's Rendering".

They're looking for web developers, CG artists, and game designers/developers to kick the tires on the new tools. Space is quite limited, but if you don't make the cutoff please join the waitlist, we'll see what we can do about making more space if required.

Looking forward to seeing you all there, and any questions for Verold please reach out to [masked].

Hi Ross, any possibility of me stepping out a couple hours between 11 and 12:30 for this? Or I can come by after 12:30. Not sure how the structure is for this hackathon

We'll normally do an overview of WebGL and the tools first thing, followed by breaking up into groups. But there are enough people coming in that you'll have no problem to just drop in anytime. See you tomorrow, Ross.

Hey Brendan, we'll try to organize another event in the evening or on a Saturday. Also, another member is looking to do an OpenCL workshop. Will definitely be more events coming!
