Kickstands Up! is designed as a friendly and informal riding group focusing on shorter Sunday rides, and occasional weeknight wing/rib nights or other events. We have no attitudes, no agendas, no inflated egos.
We’re all busy people, of all ages and variety, with other commitments who still want the camaraderie of riding. We typically leave at about 8:30 and return by 2:00. (If you also like the opportunity of longer rides, we encourage you to also join the South Florida Riders Club on Meetup. But more about that later.)
We ride in staggered formation and we expect all members to know how to ride staggered, change lanes as a group, pass down hand signals etc. Safety is our main concern. We are open to all types of bikes but will not tolerate unsafe riders. We will review formation riding with all new members. If you ride unsafely you will be asked to leave the ride for that day.
We ask that you have sufficient riding skills to feel comfortable on highways and at highway speeds, even though many rides may not use the highway. We frankly do not want brand new riders with the group. If you are a newer rider, however, and have confident basic skills, the organizer of this group will be happy to take you out sometime separately to improve your formation riding skills before riding with the group.
Prospective members may be asked to meet at an initial ride to meet the group organizers. This is to assess riding skills and basic safety. We reserve the right to reject riders we feel would not be a good fit to the group. We want to avoid the personality and riding conflicts that have plagued so many other riding groups. We just want to have enjoyable rides and conversations.
We charge a $5 annual membership fee. We are running this not for profit. If we have more members and funds than we need for the meetup cost, the extra funds will be used for a member event or treat.
Our rides start in convenient Delray Beach or Boynton Beach locations. After a breakfast we will ride more. After a lunch, or at the end of a breakfast ride, the ride leader will return to the Delray Beach or Boynton Beach area. Riders are free to peel off from the return group, or ride elsewhere, on their own.
This group has taken over from one called 360 Riders. We are not a reincarnation of that group. Our goals and procedures are very different.
Ride what you want to ride and when you want to. We just ask that you RSVP when you plan on riding with the group, and let us know if you are unable after you RSVP. Common courtesy. We will not have business meetings, elections, polls, or try to sell you t-shirts. Our agenda is to avoid group politics and just ride. We will not as a group take part in toy runs, etc. We do not require any minimum rides. We do not take pictures when we are riding, we should all know what we look like already, but feel free to take photos when we stop.
About the South Florida Riders Club. This is an excellent group that does primarily longer rides, leaving at 8:30 and usually returning at 4:00 or after. They often ride over to the west coast. Once or twice a year they do an overnight ride which is a great experience and fun. You are encouraged to join the group.
When they have a number of riders, they divide into smaller groups of 5-6 bikes. Each group has a ride leader and tailgunner, and they usually communicate with each other and the other groups via CB radio. They have a monthly social/business meeting at Chili’s in Boca Raton, and a monthly BBQ at Riva Motorsports. Officially the group is sponsored by Riva as part of the Honda Riders Club but ALL bikes are accepted. Members get a discount on parts and accessories at Riva. These are very experienced and longtime riders, many have ridden cross country, to Alaska, etc. You could not find a better group for longer rides.
