Earth Day Paddle

What better way to celebrate Earth Day 2013 than by mingling with wildlife on a kayak or standup paddleboard! Join local naturalist and guide Spring Courtright for this celebratory Earth Day Paddle.

We'll get a hands-on guided tour of the Poulsbo Marine Science Center, then Spring will have a short paddling lesson or refresher before fitting boats and boards.

Then we'll paddle out to search for the resident Harbor Seals, Bald Eagles, jumping fish and other wildlife. We'll stop for a snack and take some quiet moments to fully appreciate the peace of the natural world we're immersed in before we head back to the dock and our normal lives.

We use stable double kayaks, but single and performance sea kayaks are available upon request (the price is the same). All ages are welcome and no experience is needed.

Please feel free to bring your own kayak, but let us know if you plan to do so: [masked] or (360) 297-4659.

Cost is $55/adult and $35/youth. Registration is available through the Bainbridge Parks and Recreation at BIParks.org or (206)[masked] x118. The class is #[masked] for adults and #[masked] for youth on page 33 of the brochure.

Spring is the program director for the Olympic Outdoor Center and has been a guide with them for 12 years.

Is the price the same if I have my own boat?

Yes, since it's a fundraising paddle it's the same price. But we can help you load and unload your boat, and you can call or e-mail me if you have questions about where to launch or load/unload! ~Spring at (360)[masked] or [masked]

Hoping to find a group of kayakers who can point me in the right direction. Girlfriend is going to visit and I'd like to find a group to get out on the water with while she is here, Mid May to first week in June. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Carlos! There are so many places to paddle around here that it's hard to choose just one...feel free to contact me if you need kayak rentals or want specific ideas. Some of my favorite places to paddle on the Kitsap Peninsula: Scenic Beach State Park to Stavis Bay (go to Barbie's cafe afterwards for homemade pie!), Port Gamble to Hood's Head (across the Hood Canal) or along the shoreline...or in any direction really (go to the Port Gamble General Store and cafe for DELICIOUS homemade cooking afterwards!). I have tons more ideas, but those are two of my local faves...

Is there still a fee, if one brings one's own kayak & equipment ?

I only have three people registered so far, which is a crying shame for such a fun tour! Please spread the word and let me know if you have questions.
