Are you an aspiring writer, poet, novelist or other creative wordsmith seeking to find a group of like minded people to come together and encourage and help you feed and keep your muse? Have you been a writer for a long time now, and felt as though you've lost touch with that creative spark? Are you all too familiar with that dreaded literary monster known as "Writer's Block?" Or do you simply feel that you need more true friends, and people who are living the writer's life just as yourself and you love the company and creativity that comes from writing in group settings? If so maybe this group truly is for you then.
The Austin Texas "Knock the Block" Creative Writing Meetup is a group designed to help not only dispel the myth of writer's block and instead speak about all the myriad of ways of overcoming our fears, worries, everyday life struggles and take bold actions to using such things to our advantage and to fuel our creative potential. The group will be very laid back, welcoming, informative and productive.
Many times our meetings will take place at local coffee shops or other creative venues, where we will meet several times a month and take full advantage of the group setting to not only discuss issues that have great relevance to us as writers, but more importantly, to spend time writing together, crafting together and experiencing and experimenting with many writing exercises that promote even greater confidence and imagination in our creative works. And of course, lets not forget that this is to be a safe group to make true friends and writerly companions. Emphasis will always be much more on sharing and personal empowerment and healthy encouragement than judgmental critiques.
On all levels we will strive to reach new personal goals and heights as writer's and as a community, but the importance is on individual voice and the power of the creative mind much more than it is on tight lipped grammatical or punctual accuracy . So come check us out, help us "Kick the Block" and as always continue to "Write On!"
