Advanced Game Day

This Meetup has a different vibe than our weekly Saturday game day. Here, we will be playing games that are far heavier or more advanced in level. Expect games played on this night to have complex rules and play times that can--and often will--exceed two or three hours in length. If you're interested, please RSVP soon, and if you RSVP, please show up and show up on time-ish! Because these games are so much longer and more involved, there's significantly more prep work and we want to make sure everyone has something to play. If there's a lot of interest, we may need to set a cap, so we can be sure there are enough folks to help teach.

While we'll have plenty of snacks on hand, we're planning on doing dinner separately.

Below, you'll find a list of games that we're planning for Friday. If there is a game that you want to play for sure, please let us know as quickly as possible and we'll try to make sure you get into that game. Below is a link to the rules for each game, so if you feel so inclined, you can read them early, but you certainly don't have to.

Battlestar Galactica (5-6 players): http://new.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/Battlestar_Galactica/bsg-rulebook-web.pdfn An American style board game. A "team based" game with a traitor mechanic. 4 out of 5 in complexity.

Dominant Species (3-6 players): http://www.gmtgames.com/domspecies/domspec_rules_final.pdf
A heavy European style game. Area control with worker placement. 4 out of 5 in complexity, but very, very think-y. Also, quite long. Also, amazing. Also, don't be intimidated.

Chaos in the Old World (4 players): http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/chaos_in_the_old_world/chaos-in-the-world-rule-book/chaos-in-the-old-world-rule-book-web.pdf
An American/European hybrid game. Area control mechanics with dice rolling combat. 3.5 out of 5 in complexity.

T'zolkin: The Mayan Calendar (3-4 players): http://czechgames.com/files/Tzolkin_EN.pdf
A European style game. Worker placement with a twist. 3.5 out of 5 in complexity.

Also, Axis and Allies has been offered up as another option (2-6 players): http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/35052/axis-allies-anniversary-edition

If more players want to play that, we can switch out with one of the Euro games.

I have a perfect game for this meetup! I own this game and will bring it if you wish. Has anyone heard of Axis & Allies? For those who don't, you take control of one or more of the 6 major powers in WWII. I have the new improved Anniversary Edition. This game is very complex and will definitly take hours to play. This game is a strategy lovers heaven. This game was once referred as 'a game for when you're snowed in at a cabin.'

My game, the Anniversary Edition, is a whole new board game, it has new units, cheaper ships, Italy is a seperete power, just an all around better game, and you might like to try your hand at it's 1941 option.

I am a wargamer but mostly GMT stuff so AandA isn't really my bag :( I would love to try BSG, though! Mansions of madness or Arkham would be cool, as well. Looking forward to this.

Alright, group, I added a RSVP cap because this evening of games is designed with this in mind: only a few games will be going, and Brad will set up what he can ahead of time so that we won't be playing until too wee hours. With the more rigid setup than Saturday games, we can go ahead and talk about what we were thinking about playing. A couple that Brad mentioned include Battlestar Galactica and Dominant Species. Other longer games that we haven't gotten to get into during Saturday games include Merchants & Marauders and Mansions of Madness.

We'll soon post some basic info about these games and try to get y'all to weigh in on what appeals to ya.
