We will walk the Will Skelton Greenway, a paved greenway along the river for 1 mile. Then we will loop back on several well-maintained gravel roads for a total of 3 miles. This is a relatively open area and will be a great area for birding so bring binoculars. See trail map at

Take exit 388A for James White Parkway, Keep left to continue on James White Parkway, go over Tennessee River on bridge, then take exit toward Hillwood Ave. Turn left onto Anita Dr. Continue straight onto Anita Dr. Continue straight after stop sign onto Hillwood Dr. Turn right at bottom of hill onto Island Home Ave. Island Home bears to the left a short distance. Continue 1.5 mile past Ijams Nature Center and Mead Quarry and turn left onto McClure Lane. Follow this to the end, the parking area is on the right as you enter the Wildlife Management Area.

From June 3 outing to Forks of the River WMA, here is our bird list: blue grosbeak, indigo bunting, common yellowthroat warbler, cedar waxwing, red bellied woodpecker, downy woodpecker, chickadee, cardinal, cowbird, carolina wren, yellow-billed cuckoo, osprey, kingfisher, canada goose, bluejay, mockingbird, starling, ruby-throated hummingbird, blue-gray gnatcatcher, eastern bluebird, tree swallow, mourning dove. This is a great place for birding. But bring a map as the number of trails that crisscross can be confusing. Maps available online at:

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
