Indian Cave tour

Glad to see the activity picking up! Spring is near and everyone is itching to get out! With the weather as crazy as it is, this trip should be able to happen no matter what Mother Mature wants to do (this is not a challenge to you M.N.!)
Well this one will get you underground. Indian Cave in Blaine,Tn. The tour takes about 2 hours and cost $10 per person.
Indian Cave is one of dozens of Indian Caves in the USA. Many caves were used by the American natives, and so many got this name. This cave was used by the Indians for more than 5000 years, numerous remains were excavated proofing this. In 1983 the remains of a human skeleton were discovered and examined by the University of Tennessee. They were dated to be 3000 years old.
If you want to carpool you can meet at Knoxville Center Mall at 10:30 am and carpool to Blaine. Maybe a twenty minute drive or so to Indian Cave.
I couldn't find info on the average temp inside the cave but i would guess it to be chilly. I recommend dressing in layers and bring a flashlight or headlamp as not all of the cave is illuminated. Also a water or whatever you may feel you need. It is around a 3 mile round trip walk on a mostly level surface so no crawling or tight squeezes!
If you are not carpooling just meet us up there around 11:00 AM
I tried to contact them about a group rate but was unable to get anyone on the phone.

Don't forget that we'll have just lost an hour switching to DST. Also, caves in this area are about 58 degrees (the temp in a cave is the average annual temp outside the cave).

Anyone wanting to carpool should be in the parking lot in front of the J.C. Penny, Knoxville Center Mall (east town) by 10:30 am. my car is full already so i will be heading straight up....if anyone is crazy enough... i plan on paddling the 31 (+ or - ) miles back to downtown on the Holston river, which has a good current. But please Make sure that you are crazy!...and bring a flashlight!

    • Wes

yes we are doing the cave, if anyone wants to do the river after that is up to them :)

      February 27, 2013

  • Wes

This will JUST be a cave walking tour. This is NOT an organized water trip. However, anyone wanting to enjoy the close proximity to the river and bring a boat is more than welcome! I am planning on bringing my yak and paddling the Holston back to downtown. I don't know how many miles this is or how long it will take nor am i concerned. It just sounds fun. I hope this clears up any confusion :)

Just wanted to let folks know that there IS a put-in nearby-not organizing it. Just look for it...it is a beautiful float down the river. I'm not going to be able to go-have to go to ky

I'm sorry, Gary. I shouldn't have mentioned it if I wasn't up for going-I just wanted others to be looking at the put-in if they didn't know about it because it is a beautiful easy paddle down the river if they ever wanted to go out there. I'll be out of town so I won't be going to the cave.

Um this is going to sound like a stupid question but..... Is this just a walking tour? Or do we bring out kayaks? Little confused.

Sounds great, but I'm broke. I've been there before and since its a natural attraction I didnt have to pay a penny. Otherwise Id be super interested. Let me know if cost changes.

Caves are usually a pretty constant temp...around 55. There's also a put in close by for nice trip down the river.

Hey Wookie! My son and I both have our own kayaks so I think we will bring ours, even though it sounds really tempting to do all the paddling while u hang out in the back. Haha :-D thanks for the offer, we look forward to floating down with you guys!! Can't wait!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
