My name is Tara Davis. I am the Fair Housing Specialist for the City of Knoxville. In a nutshell, I investigate complaints of housing discrimination which occur within the city's limits. (For more information about the laws that I enforce, please visit the city's website at http://www.cityofknoxville.org/development/fairhousing.asp ) A part of the job that I do with the city is to engage in education and outreach within the community to ensure that citizens are aware of their rights under the local ordinance and the federal laws. We are a federally-assisted program under the direction of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Earlier this year, HUD released a final ruling (http://portal.hud.gov/hudportal/documents/huddoc?id=12lgbtfinalrule.pdf ) which prohibits discrimination in its core programs on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and marital status.
Please forgive this short notice. On THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., my office is hosting fair housing training which will specifically address issues covered under the current laws and the implications of the new HUD ruling as they relate to the LGBTQ community. We are asking that you and/or representatives from your organization attend this very important training. Tracey McCartney, Executive Director of the Tennessee Fair Housing Council, will be our faciliatator. There is room for up to 50 people. So please feel free to share this email and encourage others to attend. There is no cost for the training but we do ask that you register at www.fairhousingtennessee.net (Registration will be available later this afternoon). The training will take place at Cherokee Health, 2018 Western Ave., Knoxville, TN 37921. Parking is free.
If you have any questions, please email or contact me.
