R Benutzer Treffen Köln / R user meeting in Cologne

Agenda:

18:00 Willkommen

Ab 18:15 Vorträge:

• Introduction to Renjin, the R interpreter for the JVM (Maarten-Jan Kallen)

Topics: Why an alternative interpreter and what are the differences in design and philosophy between the many interpreters (e.g. Renjin, pqR, FastR, and TERR) currently under development? General overview of the Renjin project: when should you (not) use Renjin, how to get started, how to use packages, etc. Demo: creating a simple Java application with Renjin + creating a Java web application with Renjin in Google Appengine (= scalable R interpreter in the cloud!).

• DataCamp: online interactive learning platform for R (Jonathan Cornelissen, Martijn Theuwissen)

www.DataCamp.com is an online interactive learning platform for R. Students can learn about R and statistics through learning by doing. DataCamp also enables teachers to create interactive and fun courses on statistics and R (see teach.datacamp.com). In this talk, we'll explain what we've learned so far, and how you can create your own courses on DataCamp for free. In addition to the free courses and course creation tools, we'll be adding premium courses in the future in collaboration with Revolution Analytics, Rstudio, Andrew Conway from Princeton, Bob Muenchen (R for SAS users), and Matt and Arun from the data.table package.
