Time once again to get the buldak (yes this dish has been mentioned and therefore approved by Jonathan Gold) or what perhaps should be better known as - and this is the literal translation of the Korean - Fire Chicken.
This place is on Serrano Ave. That's the name of a hot chile. That's your clue.
As far as I know, this is the only place in all of Koreatown that can provide heat at the level of - say - Jitlada - e.g. a Thai Spicy sort of heat.
Last time we ordered it we asked for (well more like they insisted we start at) a 6 on a scale of 10. It was just fine and probably you wouldn't want it any hotter (but we could - that's up to group majority vote).
But it's not all about the heat - the spicy chicken comes on a bed of crispy rice and that makes the dish really good!
Family style - all food costs are shared except everyone is responsible for paying for their drink orders. They have beer in-house or you can bring your own bottle of wine to share.
Other food potentials are hot wings, dakdoritang (chicken potato stew), tong dak (fried or broiled chicken) beer can chicken, yes do you see a chicken theme here, but let's try to stick with mostly the fire chicken.
If you need more fast-foody sort of chicken there's Kyochon just a block or two away to the north, or if you can't take seriously spicy heat this is NOT the meetup for you.
We will be dining family style so this event is not for you if you don't prefer sharing food. Please bring cash to simplify bill paying.
Hope to see you there!
