Healthy Zone Jook Hyang

To offset all of the big holiday meals, I usually want something light and healthy.

I love jook, it is the ultimate comfort food.  I have wanted to try the Korean version for some time.

This place has, among other things, MSG-free dishes.  They are on the same part of Olympic as Yu Chun, another favorite of mine.  They are the restaurant closest to the street.

Come join me, if your spirit and belly are willing.

This place doesn't seem to have much of an online presence, so here's a good ol' yelp review:

Healthy Zone Jook Hyang

I want to try their ginseng chicken, and a couple of their soups.  I hope to keep the budget to about $15.00 per person.

Good news - Porridge may likely fit that restriction...

I may reschedule as I'm limited to soft foods for a while!

Andree, you'll undoubtedly want to set up another event here so you can try it. The soups are really good. They have a combo meal with mostly spicy meat sorts of things, I don't know why you'd want to have that kind of stuff here when they don't specialize in it, but what we did see of that sort of stuff being served did smell good.

Well "Oh Ma" means "Mom" I think, after all.

I thought the fish was better here than at Soban. Excellent banchan. My first try of Korean porridge and I'm already wanting more!

Absolutely fresh means never having seen the inside of a freezer; killed and delivered by the local poultry shop daily.

The owner of this place in an amazing Korean man. He talked to Andree and I for several minutes - and he really loves his menu.

Does "absolutely fresh" mean they have a coop out back? ;-D

Andree, Oh Ma Ni has your ginseng chicken soup in 3 sizes, individual (Dak Gom Tang, $8.99), larger (Sam Gye Tang, $12.99 but still small enough for 1 person) and super sized (Dak Baek Suk, $36.99, call in advance and they will procure the chicken absolutely fresh).

wow Andree, 2 months in advance!
healthy zone and jook don't go together as I have never had a "healthy" jook. they are always heavy and full of carbs but very tasty when done right. if you like the idea of ginseng and chicken, try the chicken/rice soup at kang nam (theirs is the best). this is our version of the chicken noodle soup!
