New Year's Party (Seotdal Geumeum & Seolnal Party)

This location is shown only to members

*** UPDATE Jan 15, 2009 ***

January 26 (Monday) is Seolnal, Lunar New Year's Day, which is one of the major holidays celebrated by Koreans as well as many others in Asian countries.

On Lunar New Year's eve, we will meet, eat, drink and have fun while learning a thing or two about Korean culture too!

The party will be a small-scale house party at Zeanie's home, celebrating Korean culture and exchanging blessings for the good year.

This is a multi-group joint event! We are expecting a good crowd, awesome food and fun times! So be there; don't be square!

A few activities we are planning are:
+ Eat yummy Seolnal food
+ Play fun Seolnal games
+ See and/or try on Seolnal clothing (Hanbok)
+ Learn a thing or two about Korean culture
+ Win prizes (surprises!)
+ Watch Korean movies (if time allows)
+ and most importantly, meet nice, fun people and have pleasant social networking

This event will start on time and will last until the last person leaves.

Cost: suggested donation is $12 in advance or $15 at the door. This includes all the food, drink, music, games, and prizes!

To pay in advance:
+ If you are KoreanLA member, use the link provided on this page.
+ If you are not a member of KoreanLA, pay in advance directly to your Group Organizer.

Please RSVP!
Your RSVP helps me estimate how much food, drinks and prizes I need to get for you.

Wear Hanbok - Korean traditional clothing
Do you have Hanbok? Then please wear it or bring it!

Especially native Koreans - I need your help on this. Please bring your Korean traditional "stuff" so that we can show them to others. Thank you!

We need your help!

+ Set-up party begins at 2 pm. Who can come early to help?

+ Feel free to bring dessert, snacks and drinks! -- Especially if you have special dietary need.

+ Can you be a game-meister? You get people together and start playing it!
If you know Yutnori, Gostop (Korean card games), Gongi, Charade, Jegi (shuttle cock), Dakssaum (cock fight), Flashcard games or any game you can suggest, please help! Even if you don't know these games, you can help! You don't have to play all the games - just one!

+ Can you be a Drink-meister? You will make sure everyone has a drink in their hands at all times!

+ Can you be a Snack-meister? Let's be certain everyone knows where snacks are

+ Can you be a Music-meister? Bring your music! Good party needs a good music!

+ Can you be a movie-meister? Shoot me an email and let me know what you can bring!

Hi, thanks to everyone who inquired about the carpool to Zeanie's house, from Los Angeles/Ktown area. My carpool is now full, but I've received a couple of more requests for a second carpool group, so I encourage you to communicate that here, on this "talk about this meetup" area. Make new friends, and support a greener environment! :)

Thanks for an awesome party, everyone! (in an Emmy-Award-voice) I thank my mother for kicking me out of kitchen and making her signature Korean soul dishes (My mother caters. *hint hint*). Soo came early in the morning and never stopped working until the last guest left. I cannot thank you enough, buddy! Don and John have been so supportive of this event - you are awesome! Thank you, Jane for taking care of the bar for everyone and made sure all the guests were hydrated! Hyobin, I will be upset if you ever change! Thanks for being the way you are and leading the game. Thanks again Soo for choosing a movie for us. Jamie for being a such a sport and being a Hanbok model, JiHyeon for bringing her Hanbok and her daughter for wearing a royal Hanbok. I am so lucky to have fabulous team of co-organizers (the bestest!) and most of all, all the members and their guests -- YOU! I appreciate the privilege of getting to know you, your friendship, kindness & oh no I'm out of space. Who did I miss?
