Can You Rock - Season 10

Can You Rock? is Indy's Premiere Live Karaoke Experience.

Contestents sing with a live band comprised of top musicians from the most popular bands in Indy. Choose from more than 200 songs on the Can You Rock songlist.

Nightly prizes are awarded and preliminary winners advance to a grand finale event to win cash, special appearances and a chance to sing in a Blonde Entertainment managed band.

I hope some of you will participate in the competition. If you've never sang with a live band, it's AWESOME!!

There is a $3.00 cover charge for the first 6 weeks and a $5 cover for the finals! Great food in a non-smoking Venue.

Dear Songbirds,

As a “veteran” of the Can You Rock competition, I have been asked to supply detailed information about this event.

The competition runs for 6 weeks: Feb 10th–Mar 17th. Each Sunday night, a maximum of 20 singers can sign up to sing a song selected from theCan You Rock song list found on the Blonde Entertainment website. http://www.blondeentertainment.com/files/CYR_April_2012_Songlist.pdf

The first 20 singers are judged by a two-person panel of professional Blonde Entertainment singers. The judges select the best 4 to sing in the second round that night. From these four singers, the top two singers are selected by audience applause to move on to the Finals; which are held on March 24th.

If you sing in the competition and do not make it as the top two for that evening, you may return to sing again the next week. If you are selected as one of the top two singers, you will not compete again until the Finals, but you can return as a Guest Singer during the course of the competition, if time permits.

TIPS

You need to have two songs prepared each evening that you plan on competing. Your first song will be judged by the panel, so make it your “killer” song. If you make it to the second round of the evening, your second song should be a “crowd favorite” since that is who decides who the top two finalists are.

No song can be sung twice in an evening. You need to arrive no later than 7:00pm to sign up to sing in order to ensure you get to sing the song you want to sing.

You do not have to sing a new song each week, but it would probably behoove you to have several songs at the ready to show the judges you are versatile and since you never know who is going to select your song before you get to select it.

Remember, you are singing with a live band, not a karaoke machine. There is no monitor with the words. You can ask that the words be available and they will be printed on 8X10 sheet of paper and placed on a music stand. You should have the song memorized and only use the sheet to check the lyrics quickly.

This is a professional band with very talented musician; you can tell them what key you want the song in or even change the tempo. They will follow you regardless of what you do; right or wrong.

The winner of the Finals will walk away with $1000 and will sing live on the “Smiley” radio show the next morning. Some of the winners have even been hired by Blonde Entertainment to perform as a member of one of their local bands.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me through the Meetup Site.

Let's be realistic about Can you Rock. This is a way for Blonde Entertainment to showcase their existing talent and to recruit new talent. They are only interested in singers under 30 that can be placed in bands that they manage. If you have any expectation of winning this contest - or even moving into the finals - then you should temper them with reality.

I go because I enjoy singing with a live band. That's it. I have no expectation of moving into the finals or for winning the contest. This allows me to enjoy good friends and good company and to sing with a band occasionally.

I only know a keyboardist whom I am working with trying to find a guitarist. What I have troubles with singing with a band is them overpowering my voice.

I think professional singers meaning those w for example a cd out etc shouldn't be allowed in this contest. I sing but I am not professional. I was in a contest and a professional singer entered but had a cousin sing when she advanced. I don't have any experience singing w a band I just want to do the contest for fun.

It was a very disappointing and discouraging when a professional singer entered and won the contest last night. I actually spoke to this woman and asked if she was a professional and she denied it. Then when I named the band she was in, she came clean about it. All I ask is that there be full disclosure to the audience when there is a professional singer competiting against those of us that are not professional.

I am not good enough to win a competition, but it would be neat to sing with a live band. I may do it just for the neat experience.

I think the whole point is to have fun and realize that the last time i did one of these I thought I sucked and received complements because most people don't have the guts to do what we do.

I have had that well when I broke my nose and just realize that you will be sensitve to people being near your nose and get scared every time you see someone playing basketball because that surgery is painful. Rest up and hopefully you have someone to help take care of you. i had that surgery when I was single and it sucked.

I've competed in prior CYR competitions. It can be alot of fun but for me it's also stressful. If you want a seat, you have to get there early - I believe they open the door to the back bar at 6:30.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
