Hi, I'm Barbara.
I want to thank each of you for joining. This site has only been up 48 hours and we already have 5 members and a sponsor. I think we're moving along nicely.
I've been having trouble with getting questions to generate when someone joins this group because I've been using my work laptop and much of Meetups is blocked by my company. So I didn't get a chance to introduce myself and ask each of you some questions. So here goes.
How long have you being doing karaoke?
What and where is your favorite place(s) to sing?
Many places for karaoke are bars and clubs. Are you over 21?
I will share with you a little about myself and hope that each of you will share with the rest of us as well. I discovered a passion for karaoke a few years ago. I don't consider myself a great singer, but I can carry a tune; most of the time. Mostly I just have fun with it. Singing karaoke has brought lots of new people into my life. When you get up to sing someplace, you are automatically a member of a community of like-minded folks. As a member with Meetups for a couple of years, I noticed there hasn't been a group for karaoke in Indianapolis. So I decided to bite the bullet and start this group.
Having never been an organizer, I'm still learning how to do things. But as far as I'm concerned, we are all organizers of this group. We all need your input and ideas to make this a fun group.
Personally, I have been looking on the internet for a list of places that offer karaoke so that any night of the week, I know where to go and sing. I want to post a calendar in our meetup site of locations and times for karaoke in the Indy area. Not all of these will be actual Meetup events, but I'm sure some will be.
I would also like to highlight local competitions so be sure to post about any of these that you hear of. These venues and vendors are our target for sponsorships of our group which then can provide some little extras, such as prizes, t-shirts, hosting of private parties all in exchange for advertising.
So, welcome to this group of songbirds and I hope we all get to meet each other at the events. In the meantime, feel free to contact me about any questions, suggestions or comments.
Yours in song,
