Footlite Musicals will hold open auditions for Follies Monday and Tuesday, December 3 and 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Hedback Community Theater, 1847 North Alabama Street, Indianapolis.
Follies is the last presentation in Footlite's[masked] season with performances May 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18 and 19, 2013. Auditions are being conducted in December due to the large cast size and the need to begin costuming well in advance for this major musical. Rehearsals will not begin in earnest until late February or early March 2013, although some vocal rehearsals will be scheduled for January.
Written by James Goldman with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Follies is considered by many to be the greatest musical ever created. Nominated for 10 Tony Awards in 1972 and the winner of Best Musical Score, this legendary musical was presented in 2011 in a highly successful Broadway revival.
Set in 1971, Follies concerns a reunion of performers who worked for a theatrical impresario famous for his lavish Follies of yesteryear before the crumbling theater where the shows were presented is demolished. Amid the reminiscing, two middle-aged couples confront some unpleasant truths about their past and present and come face to face with the future.
