South of Castleton, NY
1 Schodack Way
Schodack Landing, NY
We will be hiking / snowshoeing or even cross country skiing the entire perimeter trail of Schodack Island State Park which is a total of about 5 miles. Conditions will dictate what we do. The trail is flat with very little incline. There is a connector trail that leads down to the Schodack Creek Observation Point Bring your binoculars and if you would like to bring a lunch we can stop there to eat and bird watch. There is a picnic table at the point. There are many small birds that inhabit the area.
Schodack Island State Park sits off the eastern shore of the Hudson River just south of Albany. Approximately seven miles of Hudson River and Schodack Creek shoreline bound the 1,052-acre site. A day-use facility, the park has been designated a State Estuary, and a portion of the park shelters a Bird Conservation Area (BCA) that is home to bald eagles, cerulean warblers and blue herons that nest in the cottonwood trees. Eight miles of multi-use trails wind through a variety of ecological communities.
If there is snow... bring your snowshoes or cross country skiis. Depending on the snow cover microspikes will work also.
