Fly Fishing 6 Mile Water Works

Tuesday is the night to get out and fly fish with Rodney, a certified Casting Instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers, over at six Mile Waterworks! Meet Rodney at the pavilion in the park at 5:30pm! Please remember to bring your fly fishing gear, fishing license, flies and any personal meds you may need.

6 mile Water Works was the first municipal water supply owned and operated by the City of Albany. Prior to 1850, a private company–the Albany Waterworks Company–tapped a number of sources to supply City residents with drinking water. At that time, the Maezlandt Kill, Middle Creek and Patroon Creek provided drinking water to the City. Many residents also relied upon private wells.

Today, Six Mile Waterworks is a recreational oasis offering fishing, boating, hiking, picnicking and a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday City life. Tucked away in a tiny corner of the City, the 57-acre park boats picnic tables, grills, expanded parking facilities and a sparkling new state-of-the-art playground facility. Rensselaer Lake is stocked several times each year with fish from the City’s Alcove Reservoir, said to be home to some of the biggest fish in the Capital District.

If you would like to learn even more about fly Casting and fly tying.  Join Rodney and Gerry for llbeans Introduction to Fly Casting course.  All equipment provided, $69 per person at Six mile water works, 10-1pm (March 23rd, April 20th, May 18th, September 14th and October 5th).  Please call 1-888-LLBEAN1 to sign up, spots are limited.

I am sorry for the inconvenience. We try to give as much notice as possible, however with summer showers it is hard to predict. I was in Colonie at 5:00 pm and the sky opened up. Since there was lightning we pulled the plug rather late. Again please accept my apology. I will personally try to post cancelations at least 1 hour prior to the MeetUp.
