Paddle Around Peebles Island and Beyond

We will be paddling around Peebles Island.  This spot allows us unique views of the cliffs, from the base up.  If we are lucky we may see eagles and other wildlife, such as the deer of the island coming down to the water for a drink.

We will start at the Waterford Boat Launch area, paddle the Hudson River a short way then go up one side of the island and back down, around the east side and up the other side to see a remarkable natural phenomenon, for lack of the appropriate geologic term, a hug glacial pot hole carved out of the running water.  We will paddle as far as we can go on both sides of the island to the falls.  If time permits we can paddle north on the Hudson River to explore that part of the river.

Minimum age is 8 (8-15 yrs must have a participating adult with them, 16-17 yrs must have a parent/guardian sign participant agreement but do not need to attend)

Please be dressed for the weather, we will go rain (thundershowers will cancel this event) or shine

  • please bring water, snacks and any personal medicines you may need as well as sunscreen and bug repellant
  • Don't forget your kayak, PFD (required), whistle, and paddle for a day of fun

Directions :

The access road to the boat launch area is just before the Waterford side of the entrance to the Peebles Island State Park (do not go over the bridge).  Take South Street to First Street and the boat launch is at the end of First Street.

If you have any trouble finding us, my cell is[masked], feel free to call or text.  Cell phone coverage is good.  Look for my red Jeep Grand Cherokee!

Outstanding, fabulous, awesome! I'd rate it as double 5 star. The weather was perfect, the pace was great. Relaxed, fun, great people, good conversation. Perfect water conditions. Nice sized group. Dorothy, keep up the great work!!
