It’s been two years since I had a major event at my home. The primary problem was the extraordinary cost for liability insurance coverage. Recently I was able to find a policy that would cover general liability (no alcohol) without being a deal breaker. So, on May 31st at 5:30 PM we will try to emulate the great party that we had back in 2008.
We’ve even gone so far as to invite back the Dynamic Duo we had at that party, David Maestro and Kenyatta Mackey. Both are fabulous vocalists in their own right, but when they team up it is pure magic. Two years ago we had about 235 people. The place was really rocking. Everyone was dancing. If you were there you’ll remember that it was a great night.
David has twice played at the White House and did numerous fund raisers for President Obama. This month he will be playing and singing again at Oprah Winfrey’s Santa Barbara home. His musical credits go on to include performing or recording with: Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Debbie Reynolds, Lou Rawls, B.B. King, Peggy Lee, Eric Burdon Dexter Gordon, Rasaan-Roland Kirk, Frank Morgan, Freda Payne, Spade Cooley, Art Pepper, Richie Havens, Jimmy Witherspoon and Big Joe Williams, Wilson Pickett, Big Mamma Thorton, Little Willie John, Little Esther Phillips, and many more, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the direction of Zubin Mehta. http://vids.myspace.c...
Kenyatta just returned from an extended engagement with Princess Cruises. Her dynamic, energetic sound has been heard at BB Kings at Universal, The Queen Mary, The Sky Room in Long Beach, The GreyStone Mansion, The Playboy Mansion, Brentwood Country Club, Hollywood Park Casino, The Century Club and The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. She sings in five languages and does all styles of music from opera to R & B.
We’ll be serving barbeque fare: hot dogs, hamburgers and barbequed chicken, as well as assorted salads, pastas and vegetarian dishes. We’ll also have iced tea, lemonade, assorted soft drinks and bottled water.
If we’re fortunate, we’ll have a big turnout like two years ago. To make sure that the surroundings are safe and comfortable, however, we’ll cap the crowd at 200 people. More than 8000 people will be sent invitations, so reaching capacity might be very reasonable. Be sure and prepay early to reserve your spot. The cost is $20 per person in advance, before noon on May 31, and $25 at the door if space allows.
The address is 4145 Nogales Dr, Tarzana, CA 91356. My home can be reached off of the Reseda exit of the Ventura Fry (101). Proceed south on Reseda and make a right turn at the third stop sign after Ventura Blvd (Rosita). Proceed west and make a left turn at the second stop sign (Nogales). The home is one mile up the hill on the right. There is ample free parking on the street.
So, come for the food, come for the entertainment, come for the dancing, come for the new friends you are bound to meet both in and out of the group! We’re sure you'll have a great time.
