Kerntastic! Kayaking + Hike/Hot Springs + Giant Trees, 6/13 - 6/15 [LASS]

Note: Plenty of space left.  RSVP for the wait list and I'll move you to the Going list once you've paid.

Let's get up to the kern river area for some kayaking and camping while the water's still good!  We'll drive up Friday after work, camp Friday and Saturday nights, and drive back Sunday afternoon.  Going down the now smaller rapids in inflatable kayaks is a lot of fun!  The water level is low enough that it's perfect for sit-on-top 2 person kayaks.  We did this a few years back and people had a great time.  There will be two different groups for kayaking based on length.

We'll be able to see and hear the river from our camping area.  This trip is all about having a good time and meeting new people so think of everyone as a new friend!

On Saturday we'll visit the giant trees, eat lunch at McNally's hamburger stand (great burgers & milkshakes), and then the hike group will do an easy 3 mile round trip hike along the river to a beautiful hang out spot on the water while the hot springs group will take a drive to visit the hot springs & rope swing.  Afterward we'll break to eat dinner in restaurants and then meet back at the campsite to play group games like Catchphrase, Apples to Apples, and Twister as well as roast marshmallows and make smores around the campfire!

On Sunday we'll kayak in two groups.  The 1.5 Hour will get a safety talk + demonstration and then kayak down five rapids for 1.5 hours.  The Half Day group will get the same safety talk + demonstration and then kayak down six rapids, break for lunch (included), and then kayak the same six rapids again.  Both groups are designed for first timers and will be led by professional kayaking guides.  Kids must be at least 11 years old and 50 lbs.

Sorry, no pets for this meetup.  The drive will take 3.5 hours from LA + traffic.  Weather Report:

Kayaking 1.5 Hour (5 Rapids, Entry Level)
- $57 + paypal fee
Kayaking Half Day (6 Rapids x 2 + Lunch, Entry Level)
- $88 + paypal fee

*Message me to pay.  Included are customized map & itinerary, shade tent, camp table, hand washing station, trash & recycle stations, and extra camp chairs, campfire wood, marshmallows, graham crackers, hershey's chocolate + mini-cooler, firewood, kindling, lighter fluid, fire permit, hatchet, safety shovel and water bucket (per the permit).

I can do refunds until Tuesday 6/10. Afterwards, you'll need to find a replacement.

For this trip we'll be camping in a "dispersed" area, not in a regular campground with numbered sites.  This means we'll have more space to ourselves and will have flexibility in where we put our tents.  Our camping area will have portable restrooms and we'll have a hand washing station.  Quiet time will be from midnight to 8:30am.

Kayaking will be on Sunday.  No sandals or bare feet will be permitted.  You'll want to bring a second pair of shoes to get wet ($15 water shoes are great).  Life jackets & helmets are provided.  Wet suits are not required for the class III runs. Leave everything you don't want to get wet in your car. If you have a good time please tip the guides.

After lunch we'll split up into a hike group and a hot springs group.  The hike group will do an easy 1.5 mile hike out to a pretty hang out spot on the river and then hike back for a total of 3 miles and 200' elevation gain.  The hot springs group will drive an hour to some unmarked hot springs south of Lake Isabella where there is a 15 minute hike in and a 30 minute hike out.  The hot spring is three pretty tubs touching the river and the rope swing goes into the river.  The pictures are from a night visit but we'll be visiting during the day.  Warning: there may be people present without bathing suits.  No glass at the hot springs!

Eat dinner on your way up Fri night.  Bring food for breakfast Saturday and Sunday.  On Saturday we'll be eating lunch at the burger stand and dinner in restaurants.

----WHAT TO BRING----
Shoes you can get wet, one gallon of water per person per day, water bottle, snacks, food (see above), warm clothes for night time, flashlight, sunscreen, sun glasses + strap so you don't lose them in the river, hat, one camp chair per person, and camping gear (sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent). Email me if you won't have a camp chair or need space in someone else's tent.

Hi David does anyone have room in their tent? I have a tent that I haven't used in years and don't know if all the parts are there or how to set up. I can bring it and chance it but if not is there room in someone else's? I know i would be a last minute sign up if that's ok and I would do half day kayak [masked]

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
