Heading up the Los Angeles campus of General Assembly - bringing business, technology, and design education to the move-makers and shakers of LA!
My original position as a New Markets "floater" at GA required me to analyze embryonic start up scenes and evaluate for their growth potential. When I started researching and focusing on LA, I told my boss that LA was "the perfect storm" of a startup scene about to blow up. I told her specifically that if we set up shop in LA, the LA campus would be the second largest in the world in 1-2 years (that's saying a lot considering how well our NYC, London, and SF campuses are doing). My boss responded with, "How much are you willing to bet?" So that's when I stopped being a New Markets "floater" and moved out to Santa Monica from NYC. I'm fully invested in the scene here and very bullish about the future.
We need more techies. Developers are the building blocks of any startup community, and it's my opinion that the trendy, 'hip' personality of LA has ostracized the geeks and nerds. We need to help people realize that not only is coding cool, but that being 'cool' shouldn't be the focus of any scene - especially ours.
Love me some Stone IPA, also a big fan of Rogue beers.
