Green River - 300 Springs with Bowling Green Canoe & Kayak

  • July 10, 2010 · 11:00 AM

This is a trip being put on by
Bowling Green Canoe and Kayak. In order to make sure you receive all info about the trip, you should RSVP on their site as well. It's only 1.5 hours from Louisville, so this is a great opportunity to meet up with our friends down south. And note the start time For the Bowling Green meetup is Central time,
11am Eastern time. Their Meetup page is here:
http://www.meetup.com... The put-in is in Linwood, Kentucky off of Highway 569 and the take out is on 31E at the Green River Valley Water treatment facility. There is plenty of parking at both launch and take out sites and the convergence of the water at 300 springs is a beautiful spectacle. Not a long trip, maybe 3-4 hours at the most. Additional Information: The easiest place to meet is at the north end of the 31-E bridge over the Green River. It is about 3 miles north of Canmer. The turn-off to the put-in on 526 is actually a little south of Linwood. * IF YOU ARE DRIVING FROM BOWLING GREEN TO THIS MEET-UP, WE'LL MEET AT FAIRVIEW SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOT AT 9:00AM. * IF YOU ARE MEETING AT THE 31-E BRIDGE OVER GREEN RIVER, MEET US THERE AT 10:00AM. ** Michael's group,
Paddle Adventures Plus is doing this trip a week earlier on Saturday July 3rd - Please consider going to his website and joining if unable to do the 10th - there you will find detailed information regarding the trip **

Had a great time, thanks so much for the Bowling Green group and organizers for all their help and assistance with the logistics of getting 60+ people parked and in the water.
The springs were quite an impressive spectical --- the distance and duration of trip was perfect for a day-paddle.

Water level was at ~250cfs. No dragging or portaging necessary except to get to the takeout. Lots of gravel and sand banks exposed.

So does anyone want to carpool from Louisville? Since I do not have my own boat on the car, I would be glad to tag along w/ someone and split the gas expenses :)

I believe Anastasia is using my Perception, but I'll paddle the canoe too. With 40 Yes RSVPs I'm sure there will be plenty willing also.

teresa - I would hate for that to keep you from being able to go on the trip..did you try anastasia? I'm sure something will come up but if all else fails, I can partner with you and bring my kayak just in case

Thanks -- figured I would ask as based on what I was seeing from the satellite and road images, couldnt really find an area that appeared like it would be big enough for dozens of cars and then I saw that turn off -- will just head for the bridge and go from there.

We will park as many vehicles at the take-out as possible (limited). More at the electrical substation on Glen Lily. Some at the meeting point and a few at the put-in. We will get everyone back to their cars ao they can pick up their gear. There will be folks available to gaurd the boats and gear while we are moving vehicles around before and after the trip. We have never left anybody behind or stranded.

  • Greg M.

Brian, we want to meet them at the bridge. If there's not enough parking, we can have some people park on Glen Lilly, but that's not the put-in.

You are correct. However, the Glen Lily St. sign is frequently not there.

You won't be able to miss the meeting place as BGCK has 50 signed up and LACK has 12.

If we are coming from the North, we would want to take that right onto Glen Lily Road before reaching the bridge over the Green River, correct? in other words if we cross the river we've gone too far...?

For those that came on the first Green River trip last year, it appears the meeting point will be pretty close to the put-in for last year's trip.

As of 6/28/10 we have 23 yes and and 17 maybe from the Bowling Green group. This will be a large event. The trip is 10.4 miles. we will experience a temperature drop of 10-15 degrees before we see the springs. Lots of unique mosses and flowers and you can explore the base of the falls when the river is at the right level. Lower is better, 3' or more on the Munfordville gauge is great.

For everybody in the Eastern Time Zone the meeting time is 11:00 AM.

We meet at the north end of the 31E bridge over the Green River. We then take the boats to the put-in on Hwy 566 and move as many cars as possible to the take-out which is about 1 mile downstream from the 31E bridge, along Glen Lily Road (usually not marked with a street sign)(also the meeting point at the north of the 31E bridge. You won't miss the meeting point, there will be vehicles there with boats.

Sounds like a great trip -- factor in a large number of people coming from the Bowling Green Group as well makes it that much better....Pardon me for being anal about a couple things but I noticed 10:00 AM is the start time for the Bowling Green group but should that be expressed as 11:00 AM on here? Also, its sounding like 31-E is the takeout spot but also the meeting place? Will someone be shuttling boats and ppl to the put-in?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
