This Saturday come on out to the
Harrods Creek Boat Harbor by
9:00 AM. This is adjacent to the Captains Quarters restaurant off River Road in northeastern Jefferson County. This will be the put in for the first annual
"Flip A Coin" Paddle. Put in is $5.00/ kayak payable at the ramp. At 9 a.m. I will flip a coin to decide our destination, but because this is also our take out point, the coin thing is not a big deal, just weird. From the ramp we have three options:
- 12 Mile Island tour; an eight mile round trip paddle, four miles up the Ohio River to the head of the Island. Explore it. Then four miles back. This can be a long paddle in very choppy waters. Be advised.
- Party Cove; a two to three mile round trip paddle across the Ohio River to a cove with gravel beaches and powerboat parties. Due to the heavy powerboat traffic in this area water conditions while crossing the river can be very challenging.
- Harrods Creek; a simple flat water paddle up the creek and back. Mileage depends. This is a no wake speed area, so slow your row brother.
This is a great opportunity to get out locally and see a part of this community in a way that most will never have the boatz (to do). So bring a lunch, sunscreen, beverages, and your sense of adventure. I paddle these areas regularly, close to home means more time on the water not the road.
