There are now going to be two groups on this trip.  This was due to a huge demand, and Andy took the effort to secure permits to make this happen.

The first night, half the group will be about a quarter mile away on the island in site C.  Andy paid for and reserved it.   The second night we will split up on big goat island, or you can head to Island one.  Those going the extra few miles should be in sea kayaks and ready to make the extra push.

Also bring some cash, we will most likely be heading to the marina Saturday night for dinner and drinks, followed by a moonlight paddle back to camp for those that wish to attend.  I'll post a few maps I made later.

Please note, this trip is not really in the realm of what a first timer should do.  You should go on another single night trip we post locally first.  This will help you to figure out what you need and don't need, without being hours of a drive and miles from a car.

There is no cell service on the lake.  I will have a marine VHF radio if someone should need medical assistance, however rescue and aid are greatly delayed and people with Serious issues should re evaluate their  desire to attend.

If you have any questions, please click on my profile and send me and email.  Include a phone number and we can discuss it.

Anyone interested in carpooling down Fri. morning? I have a Tacoma and plenty of room for another boat. Let me know.

I'm game for carpooling. 17 footer if you can accommodate it.

      May 22, 2014

  • Josh W.

Is everyone arriving 11am Friday morning or would some folks like to carpool down after work Friday?

    May 7, 2014

  • Andy T.

3 days at Dale Hollow is not enough. I plan to go down on Thursday and stay that night on First Island. I've reserved the site for Thursday and since the permit is only $3 I also reserved it for Sat. Also reserved site C on State Line Island for Friday night. This site is on the Kentucky side. Anybody interested in coming Thurday? My plan on Friday is to try to kayak to the dam. If I make it I'll be sure to take a photo.

    1 · April 27, 2014

    • Nathan G.

Andy, that site should be on the KY side, North east corner in the cove. Good choice Sir!

      April 27, 2014

  • Don P.

Great place to kayak. Went there a year and a half ago my first time with Shrek and a couple of others. Really think its only 4 miles or less from State Line to Goat Island. We are doing it in the fall on the Bluegrass Canoe and Kayak meetup, but more ambitious in that we are planning to lunch at Graveyard Island and go to First Island the second night. Most camp sites are supposedly limited to 15. Might want to keep that in mind as people RSVP yes and no.

    January 15, 2014

    • Nathan G.

I'm not worried about the numbers. Most of these folks won't even show up.

      1 · January 15, 2014

  • Robert B.

Is it the State Park Marina where we will be meeting?

    January 14, 2014

    • Nathan G.

Look at the location and directions above. This is not the marina. Just past it on the public ramp.

      January 15, 2014

  • Nathan G.

Permits are now in place, and we have our spots set in stone.
This is gonna happen. See the top of the meetup for details. First day is under 2 miles to camp. Second day is around 6. This does not include adventuring out to explore and having fun. I will bring water filtration to share. And a stove to share. Bring your own pot if you wanna cook anything other then hot water. Bring extra TP and whatever ever else you may need.the water will be warm enough to swim.

Any truth to the story about the rabid goat on Big Goat Island? I heard he attacked a camper this past fall.

      1 · January 14, 2014

    • Nathan G.

It was a honey badger. They don't give a damn.

      2 · January 14, 2014

  • Dick W.

How far will we paddle each day!

    January 8, 2014

    • Paul R

Dick, I'm not sure which campsites our host with the most has reserved, but in years past we have had a short paddle the first evening to an island no more that 1.5 miles from the ramp (actually did this in the dark the time I made the trip). Day two would be about 5 to 7 miles to the next island campsite. Once there you can unload your gear, set up your tent, and either paddle more or explore the island, or kick back and relax around the fire or whatever you feel like doing. Day three would be paddling back to the put-in.

Backpacking is a great land adventure but, canoe/kayak camping is even more so. We had a great time on Ky. Lake last June and I'm looking forward to my first water adventure at Dale Hollow. Thanks, Nate, for putting this together.
