It's a Party! Holiday Music Making at Kingsley Manor

Do you feel like playing some holiday music for some fun-loving senior citizens? Join us in the lobby of Kingsley Manor (a senior living center in Hollywood) for some easy sight-reading of Christmas Carols, traditional Jewish music and some Baroque music.  Just bring a stand and your instrument. We will provide the sheet music. Kingsley Manor will provide cookies and punch. This will be our one meet up in December.

There is plenty of street parking and we will also have someone posted at the Kingsley manor parking lot from 1:00-1:15 to open the gate.

I am eager to get involved in some fun chamber music. Where is the action?

I was so happy to see the big smiles on those seniors' faces. It was a lot of fun playing with other string players.

A lot of fun for the players and listeners alike! (including my appreciative mother in the front row)

It was very great to play for the retired people. I hope some day someone will come to play for me when I am that age.

Barbara, I have been informed by Michael my better half that my cough would be most unwelcome at a retirement home, although I insist I'm not sick anymore. I'll sit this one out, but if you want to do chamber music (duos, trios, etc.) for them some other times this winter, count me in! Big hugs, Lisa Kim Davis

Pachelbel sounds fun. I'm also located in Pasadena if anyone would like to carpool. Please let me know. :)

This thing starts at 1:30. That's cutting it a little close, isn't it?

    Hi, Alana:

If you look at the address above you can see there is a map. For directions you should use Mapquest to take you directly from your door to Kingsley Manor.

There is street parking and a small parking lot at Kingsley Manor. I will have someone stationed there with a gate opener from 1:00 to 1:15. However, parking is going to be limited with 29 people attending! That's why I suggest carpooling. It's always a good idea to come early.

OK, is there any music to look at for the Pachelbel Canon? I can print it out I am not sure what piece it is.

Hi Barbara - I was just informed of a meeting in Woodland Hills at 2pm so I don't think this'll work for me. I'll be sorry to miss it and my thoughts will be with you! Happy Holidays! Barb W-R

I'm going to bring easy Christmas carols in 3 part harmony which can be played by any string instrument. Also some Chanukah pieces. I see that some members of Cantabile have joined up. Would anyone be interested in playing the Pachelbel Canon? I'll bring the music for that as well.

Count me in for Pachelbel. Anyone interested in carpooling from Orange County?

      December 12, 2012

I'll also be happy to play the Pachelbel, but haven't been to the meetup while you practiced it either.. Looking forward to this!

Heh, of course bass clef would be better than viola clef!

    December 10, 2012

    • Alana M.

Hi Don, what instrument are you playing? I am playing Viola and alto clef would work best for me. Hope to see you there.

      December 11, 2012

  • Barbara D.

I suggest that you consider carpooling. Would anyone like to get that conversation going?

    Hi, Don

I forgot about non string players when I announced this event. I only have music for strings. If you have some horn music and want attend we can take turns. The more the merrier.

Do you have parts for French horn? I'm not great at sight-transposing a (string) part in C, especially bass clef.

Looking forward to actually playing with Tom and Barbara et al. and not just visiting the store, which, by the way, is the greatest string store this side of the Atlantic.

I've missed playing with the group. Looking forward to getting back in the mix and having some good Holiday fun....

Christmas carols are pretty easy. Just join in the fun and don't be too hard on yourself if you don't get every note. We all started as beginners at one time. This will be a casual, fun party. We will pair beginners with more experienced players. By the way, there is a piano in the lobby so we can use a pianist.
