Evil Data Science: Insight Mining with Big, Local, and Quickly Growing Databases - Tim Shea

Overcoming information overload is a major problem for individuals and companies.  Taken from the perspective of Social Media aggregation tools such as Gnip, DataSift, and a custom aggregation tool he's built and maintained over the years, TimShea walks through some of the challenges of scaling for Big Data and mining for useful and practical insights.  We'll look at how to define your problem, the database platforms to consider, how NLP can (and cannot) help, and other valuable tools.

TimShea is the Product Development Director at TBWA\Chiat\Day in Los Angeles.  He's been a database guy, a startup guy, a movie guy, and an agency guy working with companies like Razorfish, Vivendi Universal, Salesforce.com, and Slingshot Labs.  Earnest young JavaScript developers make him feel old, but he tries to stay sharp by snowboarding, playing chess, and obsessively maintaining his Hype Machine profile.

Web Capabilities: A Better Way To Secure Your Apps - Dan Yoder Capability security is a useful way to follow the principal of least privilege, but hasn't seen much use in the world of Web and mobile applications. We've incorporated capability security into our API and you can too.  As CTO at spire.io and Border Stylo, Dan has built a world-class
engineering team that has launched four different and innovative
products over the past two years along with numerous consumer research
prototypes. The latest of these, of course, is spire.io, an fast,
reliable, and elastic API for Web and mobile developers that allows
them to focus on building applications instead of server

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
