Luxor app has rooms for $29 a night! This is a must do. We are planning to see penn and teller, find a dance club, Luxor buffet $35 for the day and lay by the pool. Other than that, I'm not telling.

Luxor is $40! $68 with taxes. Any takers?

So...I've been reading the yelp & tripadvisor reviews on Luxor. It sounds like our stay may be hit or miss as far as the hotel room goes. I encourage my travel mates to read the reviews for themselves but I've come up with a few quick insights:

    1. It's summer...in vegas...105+ outside. You do not want a room on the east side (morning sun) or west side (even worse, afternoon sun) of the pyramid. I spoke to a Luxor front desk receptionist who said that the NORTH side of the pyramid is cooler on average. You can REQUEST a north-side room but they CAN'T guarantee you'll get it. REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR WINDOW CURTAINS CLOSED DURING THE DAY TO HELP KEEP YOUR ROOM COOLER.

    July 14, 2013

  • Mark P.

    2. Internet in rooms is via WIRED connection only. If you're bringing your laptop, remember to pack an extra LAN cable.

    3. The pool area is considered it's own little universe by hotel rules. You canNOT bring drinks into the pool area even if you bought them at a different Luxor bar. Anyone got a few extra flasks?

    July 14, 2013

  • Mark P.

    4. Hidden fees are everywhere. If and before you decide to change any hotel rooms, check in early or out late, or restaurant reservations, be sure to ask if there are any additional fees associated with such actions - there may very well be.

    5. If you haven't yet, join the "M-life" program (https://www.mlife.com/). In addition to earning hotel & gaming comps & credits there are other benefits which are worth having. One is during check in...there's a separate desk for Mlife members to check in at which can be valuable if there is a long line for the regular front desk check in.

    Just lookin' out.

    PS--Penn & Teller is a great show!

    July 10, 2013

  • David H.

It sucks that these shows are so damn expensive, $50+. I do love magic, so I am willing to pay the $54 for Penn & Teller one of the nights if y'all want to. Other shows in that price range I'd be willing to splurge for are the Australian Bee Gees, which I hear is quite good (better than the real Bee Gees). I also wouldn't mine seeing Andrew Dice Clay. I downloaded the Luxor app, and they've been texting me deals every day, so maybe between now and then, we'll find a good deal. I got one that said 3 MGM shows for $57, but don't know what shows.

Hey gang, I'm really looking forward to the Vegas trip. Thanks Jessica for your contact info. My cell# is[masked]-1368. What time is everyone planning to get there? I'll be there early, and maybe check out the pool, and work on my tan while I wait. Dinner and exploring the Strip Tuesday night sounds GREAT!! I am open to anything, but I suggest maybe NEW YORK NEW YORK has some good eats including a Sports bar & Grille, New York Pizzaria, and the Broadway Burger Bar, just to name a few. NY NY also has some fun after-dinner entertainment at the BAR AT TIMES SQUARE featuring dueling pianos similar to Howl At The Moon at Citywalk with $5 Heinekin drafts and $5 house wines. Good call Jessica on bringing booze. I had the same idea, and may bring some myself. Cheers!!

    IMPORTANT UPDATE...

Luxor just unveiled new LOWER July rates!!! I booked the exact same type of reservation I initially made, and my rate is now $36.86 / night!!!!!!!! https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?pid=LUX&host=promo&code=ZFBMAYW

So instead of my total (with taxes & fees) being around $210, my new total is around $171 !!!!!!!!!!

Just fyi, when I called Luxor's reservation line they told me it would be $10 to change my reservation, but it is FREE to cancel your reservation and rebook through the Luxor's Website. That is what I just did.

The deal also includes a $20 food & beverage credit! How awesome is this.

I asked the reservation rep about how long it takes for my initial deposit to be credited back to my card and she said about 7-10 days. Plenty of time to have that money back when we head to Vegas.

    Just lookin' out for us,
    Mark

Cool money saver deal I found on the Luxor's website...you can get a "day pass" for their buffet (and it includes the buffet at Excalibur) for $35!!! That's right, for the cost of one meal at the Cosmopolitan buffet, you get the whole day...breakfast, lunch and dinner...at the Luxor.

    http://www.luxor.com/restaurants/more_buffet.aspx

Don't worry, Dave. I'm still going to do that one buffet at the Cosmo with ya.

    1 · July 2, 2013

    • Mark P.

Definitely don't want to do the ice bar on the first day, so I'm with Jessica on that. David, I just wouldn't feel right about 41 bucks for dinner, just for me...unless I was trying to impress a woman. I have to take a pass on the Cosmo buffet but will be there with you in spirit.

      July 4, 2013

    • David H.

Mark, no worries, I figured the $41 was probably too much, so I totally understand. That's why I checked on the price to give you the heads up. ICE BAR and buffet day pass either Wed or Thurs sounds great. I will maybe just do the Cosmo buffet Tuesday night or possibly for lunch on Friday before leaving back to La La land. At this point, any plans for our 1st night? If not, I may hook with another friend of mine who lives in Vegas. Magic shows??

      July 5, 2013

  • Mark P.

I was wrong by $13 bucks. My total including the room rate, room rate taxes and the daily resort fee was $184 and change. I'm still saving roughly $26 bucks over the three-night stay. I copied and pasted the following from my confirmation email:

Room Type: Pyramid Deluxe Queen Room
Room Rates: 7/16/2013 $36.86 plus 12% tax per night
    7/17/2013 $36.86 plus 12% tax per night
    7/18/2013 $36.86 plus 12% tax per night

    Deposit Received: $41.28

A daily Resort fee of $20.16 (tax inclusive) will be added to your room account. This will be assessed at check in and includes the following hotel services: in room wired internet; fitness center access; daily newspaper, unlimited local and domestic long distance and toll free calls and incoming faxes.

    Hope this helps,

Anyone want to join and/or split this with me?

Hi Mark, Jessica, Sandy, I am curious if everyone is planning to arrive Tuesday, and stay until Friday? Any other fun events? I like Michael Buble, but not big enough fan to pay a high $$ ticket price. I would be interested in the Australian Bee Gees show or Donny and Marie. The Fremont experience is alsi very cool with awesome light shows.

I do believe we plan on driving in on Tuesday and leaving Friday. I would love to do the Fremont experience and I wanted to see about a cool inexpensive magic show

Hi everyone. I booked a room for myself and a friend who may be meeting me in Vegas coming from AZ. I am driving there in my own car leaving early Tuesday morning 7/16, and planning to return Friday afternoon 7/19. I have 1 or 2 open seats available in my car. Anyone interested in carpooling with me should be able to split the cost of gas. Does anyone have any fun group events planned? I know of a cool Dueling-Piano club at New York, New York, similar to HOWL AT THE MOON at Universal Citywalk. I'm also planning on enjoying some good food. The Buffet at the Cosmopolotan Hotel is the best I have ever had. A bit pricey at @ $30, but well worth it in my opinion for the high quality A+ food.

    June 22, 2013

    • David H.

I know $30 sounds like a lot, but they must've hired the top chefs from around the world, because the food at the Cosmo buffet is superb. For a few bucks more you can get unlimited wine or beer. Buffet at the M hotel is supppsedly the best, but it's @ 10 miles outside of Vegas, and I think the Ck

      June 24, 2013

    • David H.

I think the Cosmo buffet has somewhat copied the buffet the M, or vice versa. After the word of mouth of the M and Cosmo buffets, most hotel buffets are trying to copy. I'm also interested in seeing the Australian Bee Gees show. Anyone else

Hey there y'all. Curious, is everyone staying at the Luxor? Any events planned? What do you have in mind? I work at the House Of Blues here in LA, so I may be able to get some comps for a House Of Blues Vegas event located in Mandalay Bay. If I can get the days off work, I will probably book a room at the Luxor soon. Vegas.com has 30% off deal. Where is your other deal from?

yeah it's a possibility though i don't know if i want to go the entire time. maybe drive up the night of the 16th to the 19th? it's also a lot of money to me still (still gotta pay for food and gambling/events)...
