Book Club - The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power

We are finally starting our book club and discussion! For the first book, I've chosen The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power by Jeff Sharlet. If you prefer to borrow, rather than purchase the book, I found there are plenty of copies available at the L.A. City Library.

At the Meetup, I would like for us to choose the next book we read for the following book club, so those of you attending, please come with your suggestions and we will vote. Suggestions don't necessarily have to be non-fiction or limited to books with an obvious liberal theme, but please try to suggest books that are available in a library, for those members who can't always afford to buy. If you previously RSVPed under "Coffee and Book Discussion," RSVP again here if you are interested in reading this book and attending our first club.

I really want to encourage people to read the entire book before coming to the Meetup, but if, for some reason you can't and still want to participate in our discussion, here is an excerpt from the book published in Mother Jones magazine,

Note: This Meetup has limited RSVPs, so please update your RSVP if you know closer to the event that you can not attend. I do not wish to have no-shows, especially if there is a waitlist.

Donation of $1 requested for this Meetup, except from $5 annual dues paying members.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
