Tell us about yourself!

Born after WW II into a conservative family. However when I first registered to vote, I registered with the Peace and Freedom Party. I had good parents. But I did not follow in their path in a beach suburb of Los Angeles.

What progressive/liberal issues do you care most about?

Peace, Health Care for All, Foreign Policy, Labor rights and a job for every able bodied person who wants a job, and of course affordable education.

How often do you talk about politics/current events: Often, Sometimes, Rarely, Never

Most everyday, on or off line. I subscribe to several email digests of progressive news digests, LA Progressive of course, Alternet.or, Truthdig, TruthOut, etc.

Favorite political comedian, commentator, political TV show, political radio show, political movie, website and/or blogs?

I tend to not have a favorite political celebraty personality. But one of my favorite intelectuals, frequently on KPFK is Noam Chomsky.

Introduction

I receive LA Progressive and liberal left e-news and views online by email everyday. And I read all the stories I have time for. In short I'm a left wing disillusioned pissed off pacifist, who wants a democracy for ordinary people. - Gary

What Gary H is saying about this Meetup Group

I like the discussion, but I think progressives should keep alternatives in mind. The two party system, I think, will continue to milk us for the vote, then marginalize us when the establishment Democratic Party leadership get the center right candidate it wants. We are feeling forced to make choices we don't always like for fear of a Republican win. I think we need to question that and be aware of opportunities for systemic change. It was FDR who famously said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Now I think he was not just talking about war but the politics of change. - Gary
