Pack Walk to the Hollywood Sign

PLEASE NOTE: The time for this meet-up was changed from 1pm to 11:30am.

This is a moderate 3.5-mile round-trip hike up to the top of Mt. Lee, home of the Hollywood Sign. This location is always swarming with international tourists; what better place to promote pit bull awareness to the world? Let's give these tourists something to see!

The hike begins from a trailhead at the top of Beachwood Drive (just before the Sunset Ranch horse stables). Let's meet at the sign at the bottom of the hill. Please arrive promptly as we will take off up the slope at approximately 11:45am. Street parking is available; make sure to obey the signs.

Guidelines:
# 1 All dogs must be on a secure collar and leash or e-collar. Prong collars should be backed up with a carabiner. Short leashes are recommended (less than 6 feet).

#2 PLEASE NO NOSE TO NOSE CONTACT (dog to dog that is). We recommend maintaining a six-foot distance.

#3 Please bring doggie poo bags.

#4 Make sure you bring water for you and your dog.

#5 One handler per dog.

* There will be lots of foot traffic, bicyclists, roller bladers, skate boarders, and several others dogs. If your dog tends to be reactive to any of these distractions, please be mindful and prepared.

* Please read the full basic LARPBO rules of conduct if you have additional questions in the discussion forum.

Amazing! Such positive reactions from the other passerbyers. So many comments of "lemme guess, a dog walking group?" Oh and those sorority girls were just FAWNING over some of the pups!

So much fun! So many dogs, absolutely no problems. I think we probably have the best-behaved group of dogs in Los Angeles!

Aw man, that would've been fun! I live in my RV & can't pass smog yet, so we've been keeping it on the down-low. We'll start participating as soon as the rig is legal again!

Hi! I just joined your group recommended by a friend's friend I have a male and female pit and I would be taking the female only, she's ok as long as there is distance between dogs initially , she was recently attacked by a lab at the dog park and her attitude while on leash had a 360 degree turn for the worst :( she lunges but nothing too crazy. I just want to make sure its still ok for me to join the hike this sunday. Thanks !

    thanks!!

      Great question! 3.5 miles roundtrip.

There's so many people attending, parking is going to be interesting!

Beachwood turns from a paved residential road into a dirt road right before you hit the trailhead; while there is an independent parking lot up there in the dirt at the trailhead, I have also found street parking on the paved part a little further south. My plan is to park there in the paved zone, walk about a block north to meet up with y'all; if the parking lot is full, I suggest you do the same!

11:30 is perfect! Really don't have Super Bowl viewing plans, but earlier is always better than later for these old bones :)) See you all there!!

    January 20, 2013

  • Troy S.

We have so many people already signed up for the walk, keep it posted and make it 11:30. For those that might cut it too close lets do another walk the following week at 1 or 2 pm. Keep the walk and start another one for next week!

same place or should we switch it up a bit? i have yet to find a (dogs allowed) hike that i loveeee in LA

      January 16, 2013

I have heard mention this is Superbowl Sunday and that starts at 3:30 do we want to start at say 11 am???

    1 · January 16, 2013

    • Julia

LOL I would not be aware of such things. Sure, I am cool with starting at 11am, or even 10am; mostly I didn't want to overlap with the Long Beach meet-up that takes place that morning. I'd be OK with moving it back the following week too.

      January 16, 2013

    • Logan D.

It would be awesome to just move it back a week seeing as that people who may want to come from Long Beach or South Bay might still be discouraged from making the drive because of the Superbowl and if we moved it back a week but kept the later start-time or noon-start time, all of us church-going folk could still attend ;P

Wow, we have so many people that when we get to the summit we might have to take turns checking out the view. :) I'm really excited to see everybody Feb. 3!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
