Open Lab & Robot Hoedown

Our second Open Lab / General Meeting of 2014!

This is our monthly general meetup for members and guests to come see what we're all about. All robots and electronics projects are welcome!  And thanks to everyone who came out last time for Open Lab.  It was fantastic to see so many new robot enthusiasts come check out what we're up to.

For our Open Lab in February I'd like to encourage anyone who has a working (or non-working) robot lying around the house to bring it along and give a brief demo to the group of what it's all about.  In particular if you have a robot you've shown before now is the time teach it a cool new robot trick to show the group.

To that end I'll be bringing at least one functional Ard-bot, the Arduino-based robot we built in an advanced Arduino class a couple of years ago.  I'll also have at least one Pelo robotic dinosaur programmed to do something new and interesting.

I'll also have information on our next Intro to Arduino programming class coming up in April.

This meetup is free and children are welcome to attend with an adult.  Snacks are provided and donations will be accepted to help pay for the costs to run the club.

Plenty of street parking and a lot behind the building.

Michael.

Anyone interested in one of those 99 Cent Only Store rats, I mean Cats, that I talked about at the meetup...

I just got home from two stores in the San Fernando Valley. The first one is where I first found the hackables, where they had them prominently displayed at the door. Now they had about 10 left on the bottom shelve in the toy area.

The second store had about 20, that I had never seen before because they were also in the toy area, under other stuffed animals.

So, unlike my usual rule of thumb when 99ing, "Look where you would never put that thing.", they were exactly where they belong, just hiding.

If anyone wants one or some and cannot find them in their local 99 (or maybe $ Tree or other $ store), contact me and I will get them to you somehow for $2 each. $1 to the 99 and $1 for another bot to donate to whatever school or after school group I feel deserve them.

If others are interesting in developing these little guys, I will accelerate my work, contact me.

    Hey All,

My wife's due-date got moved up a week to the 24th of February so there's a chance I might be occupied having a baby on the 22nd!

Just in case Tim Laren will be on hand to host and hopefully do a presentation on his extremely dangerous Furry Sumo Kitten robot project.

Tim feel free to share any details if you like...

We would love to have Open Source Robotics and fun projects represented at SCALE. Join us at SCALE 12x after or before this meetup, and let's chat about planning something for SCALE 13x. We've setup a SCALE 12x 50% off discount code for LA Robotics = ROBOT http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale12x

Going to get started helping out with FIRST soon so hoping to get some discussion on that. Will be working with Annika's fellow RCL geek Fuzz Zubair as part of the Raytheon sponsorship.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
